Title: Callowhill family
Post by: Melle on Monday 09 March 09 10:42 GMT (UK)
Hello, I am new to RootsChat so here goes! I am trying to research my Callowhill ancestors.I have a record (from a family bible) of Thomas and Bellisant Callowhill who married 7 July 1795 in Christ Church Spittlefields London .Thomas was b 1770.I also have names and birthdates of their children, one of whom James Callowhill b 1801, moved to Hull and is my great x 3 grandfather.I would love to know of any other Callowhills out there! Any more information on my London relatives and any possible connection to the Callowhill family in Worcestershire such as brothers James and Thomas Scott callowhill - I know they were Artists. Basically any info on anything Callowhill would be great! cheers!

Melle, Welcome to rootschat...
I can't give you any direct info about your Callowhill family but may I suggest that you look in the "Your Surname Interests" section of rootschat?  the link to this is at the bottom of this page.
And why not add your surnames there also?

Good hunting..
charlotte

Hello Melle, welcome from me too  :)

As Bellisant is such an unusual name, I wonder if this is the lady living with son James in 1841 census:

HO107 Piece 627 Book 7 Folio 8  Page 9
Waterside Road, St Mary Barton, Lincolnshire
CALLOWHILL
James 35  Starch Maker
William 13
Mary 6
Rebeckah 3
Bellisant 70

only Rebeckah born in Lincolnshire, all others born outside the county

death registration:
Mar 1844  Glanford Brigg    14   280        CALLOWHILL    Bellisant

Do you have the later census for James and family?

Barbara

Hello Barbara,
Yes ! It is the same Bellisant.I think she went to live with him after his first wife Jane died in 1838.I have record for 1851.
Living in hull aged 49with;-
William 22
Mary 16
Sarah(second wife) 31
In 1859 he was still in Hull working as a starch Maker ,I think probably For Reckitts .He died in 1870 described as a foreman .
His daughter, not mentioned in 1851 census, married a Valentine Dyson in Hull in 1859.
They had 4 children the first being James Callowhill Dyson My 3x grandfather.

Hi Barbara,
Thankyou so much for looking up Rebeckah for me, I wondered where she was in 1851! It would be great if you could find her in 1871. I think it is Marylebone, London with husband Valentine Dyson but I have no details.
cheers Melle

An orbit is a death announcement in the newspapers, you can be lucky or not :D depending on there status. If you are lucky they can tell you things you wouldn't otherwise know.Flesh on the bones we call it ;D I don't want to hog your topic with snipits,so i will P.M you any bits i find then maybe you can fill in a few gaps on your tree.
