i've included the name above the one i want so you have a little something to go by,
John ??? who??
This is another one i'm transcribing as a practice. I put Hancock but it was wrong. the " Clue" i was given was "Horrocks is the cotton manufacturer but I said " the n needs replacing with a double letter, sounds similar to a Lancashire cotton manufacturer"."

Hi Fitty :)
It looks like John Hanocks to me
Gadget
Added - just seen the bit underneath - must admit I thought it should be Horrocks or Harrocks because they are more comon but I can't see 2 rs
-
I would have said Hancocks.
The second letter of the surname is an "a" surely?

See my mod to first posting :)

Could it be Harrocks?

Fitty
Not sure what you're transcribing but there is a John Harcocks, b. 1815 on the 1851 for Lancashire.
But it looks like Sharrocks on the census image ::)

It's burial records for Lancashire OPR. I,m quickly losing faith in myself to be honest lol
-
So it could be the chap gadget is suggesting then?
Does the age fit with that?
And Gadget, what you're consulting is transcribed I assume so that raises another question. :-\

Just had another look at the image on the 1851 and it is Harcocks - funny H and two different styles for r with the second one a c ::)
They don't make it easy do they ;D
What was his age and year of death?
