Hi Linda,
I've just had a quick look for you (for both Walsh and Welsh) and couldn't find anything for those names going to S. Africa.
The nearest I could find was:
Thomas Welsh b. 1863   departed 14 Jan 1891  from London to South Africa - Ship: Dunottar Castle.
Sorry,
Paulene :)

Hi Linda,
The results just give an occupation, and sometimes a date of birth.
I've just found a few from Southampton for the surname Walsh, with just initials - unfortunately it's bit difficult to establish whether these are yours as they don't give dates of birth :(
Do you know if Thomas and were of Irish origin, by any chance?
I'll look through what there is, but won't post any more until I hear from you, Linda.
Take care,
Paulene :)

Hi Paulene,
Thomas was born in lancashire uk and was the son of James and Ellen walsh also from lancashire, thomas was my grandads father and he was william thomas walsh born 1900 in lancashire, they all went to south africa where my grandad william served with the south africa army a regiment called the springboks in 1915 to 1918 he was too young so my grt aunt who was born in south africa signed the papers for him to join, im also trying to find military records for william too but struggling
thankyou linda

Hi Linda,
Struggling a bit myself!
Just found a group going over on 12 Jan 1916:
Mr T Walsh b 1865
Master J A b 1907
Master T W b 1902
No Mrs A though
Going from London to Cape.
Trouble is this is probably too late + father's occupation is plumber.
Tell me what you think, Linda.
Paulene :)

That certainly sound like them other than the initials being opposite way round, i will print it off and look into it more, ann/ annie may of gone at a seperat time to them

Hi Linda,
Well there are lots of departures for Mr T (plumber) from Southampton after that date.- probably coming back to UK for visits.
Would you like the details for the 1916 one, Linda? I can email them to you - send me a pm if you do.
Paulene :)
