Title: Richard WARREN in SA
Post by: Rochdalian on Saturday 04 April 09 12:31 BST (UK)
Hi

Could anyone help me to find a marriage, and/or children for this man.  He is listed as a migrant per AFRICAINE in Nov 1838 to South Australia.  He was an agricultural labourer and 28 years old, also he was engaged by John Hallett.

Alternatively he could have skipped across to Tasmania?? :-\

Thanks & Cheers

Bob

Now this one looks like a certainty

WARREN George Samuel 24, = FREAKLEY Alice Mary 24, 17 Mar 1886 #968

Also suspect this one - he did name a daughter Eva. Sorry I can't see the area or fathers name to be sure

WARREN Richard 23 = LITTLE Mary Jane 24, 10 Nov 1887 #68

no age here even but a possibility of brothers marrying sisters perhaps. They too had a daughter Eva - may mean nothing of course  :-\

WARREN William Adult = LITTLE Elizabeth Adult 14 July 1886 #55

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Kris

Thanks for those look ups.

I thought I had two Richards because it seems to me that usually people moved FROM Tassie rather than to Tassie. However, it looks like you have confirmed that they are the same man and that he did live out his life there.  I do however have a conflict in that I had his mother as Mary LUCKHAM not YEATS as shown in the BISA entry.

The boy Levi Luckham b1859 only lived for 5 years but I have another Levi Luckham b1872 which I got off the Tassie Colonial Links database(?).  Do I believe BISA before that?

So, he moved to Tassie between 1838 and 1848.

Thanks again

Bob

Hi Bob,

The BISA can be very helpful but it is not without faults. A lot of the information contained is of the submitted variety which was used in conjunction with SA records. We have William from Dorset so well worth following up there. They did seem keen on the name Levi Luckham so it has come from somewhere. I did give you both Levi's birth details above, one in 1859 and the second in 1872.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi there,

I am not sure if you are still trying to track down Richard Warren however I can confirm he did move to Tasmania. (I am a descendant of his daughter Alice Cook Warren). I'm not sure if this forum will allow me to post web links but I will try.

Richard Warren announces he has purchased the Carrick Mill May 1, 1841 http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/66021798?

A story of Kangaroo Island as remembered by a friend of Richard January 21, 1888
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/201174987?

Death of Levi Luckman Warren (1st) age 5 April 1, 1865
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/8831961?

Unfortunately this article does not reference his time in Evandale nor his ownership of the mill (Richard's occupation was listed as a miller when he first arrived in SA)
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/209733643?

Many people have Richard's mother listed as Mary YEATES, however I believe it to be Mary LUCKHAM

I hope this helps :-)

Cheers - h

Hi Heather

Thanks for your post and the links.  Richard WARREN is my daughter in law's 3x great-grandfather and I went as far as I wanted to with that line quite a number of years ago.  However your post triggered me to look into Richard a bit more in particular in reference to his mother's maiden name.  I found an image of Richard in the baptism register as the son of William & Mary and I also found an image of William & Mary's marriage clearly showing her name as YEATS.  I would be very interested in why you think her name was LUCKHAM if you don't mind.  Certainly the LUCKHAM name is prominent in the family and it had to come from somewhere!

I've attached thetwo images in case you haven't seen them.

Cheers

Bob

Richard Warren is my 2nd Great Grandfather.
Mary Yeats, was Richard Warrens mother..

Her mother was Thomasin Groves, who had two marriages the first to Thomas Yeats, and the second to George Luckham.

George must have been a good stepfather to Mary Yeats. as her own father died the year after she was born. And the Luckham name was passed on to later generations in the Warrens.

Hi Heather,
I noticed you said you are also a descendant of Richard Warren, as am I through George Samuel Warren.

I am trying to find records that show how and when John Wright and Alice Wright (nee Cook) and their children (William, Jane, Ann) came out from England. It was between 1831 when Ann was born and 1848 when she married Richard Warren, but i havnt found any records.

Do you know anything about this period?

Regards
Brian graham
