Wonder if anyone can help. I have a relative search of the family name MELANDRI. I have census in Britain showing Vincenzo Melandri coming from a place called either Noyorum Glote or Aoyorum Glate/Glote/Grote - it is not clear to read the precise spelling . I have been told by other family members that they believe it may be near or part of Faenza in Italy. I have looked through old maps and new online as much as possible, and am unable to find anything of that names or anything at all similar. Vincenzo who it says was a hotel keeper in Italy and his son Guiseppe were in London showing in census for 1861. Vincenzo I believe was born about 1815 and his son Guiseppe was born about 1846. There is no mention of Vincenzo's wife ( so maybe she had died before coming to Britain ?) . I have lots of info on the family once established in Britain. Then Vincenzo disappears again on census in Britain after 1883 ( when his second wife has died). So he may have returned to Italy - as there is no sign of his death here. If anyone can give me any help to at least finding the proper name maybe of where Vincenzo and Guiseppe may have come from that would at least give me a chance to try and find his first wife and mother of Guiseppe !!! All help most gratefully received. Thanks for reading all this !!!!

Thanks for looking and list - it is very long !!! I have in fact just been told on another forum that the place is probably Glorie near Ravenna. So with that as a possible I am going to see if there is anywhere online that I may be able to track down a birth registration in and around that area for Guiseppe. Do you by any chance know if there is anywhere online to find such a thing ??
Thanks for your help

PURLIN- Yes thanks I did. The family members mentioned there are of Vincenzo's second marriage and I am after his first wife and only son Guiseppe of the first marriage. I know Guiseppe - Vincenzo's son - was born in Italy as well before coming over together to UK. I have found nothing on the wife/mother and am assuming ( perhaps wrongly!!) that she didn't come for some reason - which at that time presume could be she had died.
Thanks again for this info. :)
JED59 - Thanks for those a few of them won't load at the mo so will have another go later. Thanks for your help also.

Hi
I can see Vincenzo in the 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses giving his birthplace simply as Italy.
So presumably the tricky birthplace is in the 1851 census, in which I can't easily find him. Please could you give the full census reference?
Anna :)

If someone wants informations about Vincenzo Melandri, I have a lot of
-
Any information that you can give me would be an enormous help on Vincent Melandri. Thanking you for any help.

Hi Libbs! I am italian. Sorry for my english. There are a lot of people with the same name, so is possible to make errors. I have done a research about Vincenzo Melandri born in Faenza (near Ravenna) 27/07/1814. His father was called Giuseppe (not Guiseppe) and was a shoemaker. Vincenzo fight in the first indipendence italian war in Vicenza in 1848 in a civic battalion. In 1849 in Italy there was a revolution in particolary in papal state. When the Pope returned there were a terribile restauration with a lot of exiliated. Vincenzo , called Barilone (big barrel) was an innkeeper, with 25 of Faenza was send in New York in 1854. He tried to retourn in Italy passing by Marseille, but he had to go to London where he met Giuseppe Mazzini and other italian patriots.
-
Hi Romagna. This is amazing, and thank you so much for all this information. Your English is very good !! I suppose when he arrived in London with the other patriots he then decided to stay? I wonder what happened to his wife. Do you think that she stayed in Italy? Very exciting having so much information. Thank you again. Libbs
-
Hi libbs, Vincenzo was send with a lot of other italian people in exile for politic opinions. If he wanted to return there was the prison. The State of the Church collapsed in 1859. When Vincenzo was send in New York in 1854 he was widower and had a son that remain in Italy ( I am not sure of the name of the son). Probably in London he formed an other family.
Why are you finding informations about him?
Do you have some information about his period in London?
I know that he died in Italy
Thank you!
-
Hi Romagna
Thanks for more information. Vincenzo had a son called Guiseppe L Melandri. Guiseppe was born 1846 in Glorie ? Italy. I do not know the exact birth date. He was Vincenzo's son in Italy. I wonder if his name should have also been spelt Giuseppe , like his grandfather ( Vincenzo's father the shoemaker) ?
I have no information on Vincenzo's wife, who obviously died in Italy. Guiseppe L Melandri came to London, I do not know the date , but in 1861 he was living in London. His father Vincenzo was also in London, with his second wife. He married her in 1858. Guiseppe was my great grandmother's first husband. Are you related to the Melandri family at all?
-
Yes I'm related to Melandri family! I'm not sure that Vincenzo born in 1814 and exiled in London is one of my ancestry, but surely there are a lot of coincidences. I will find in archives to make no mistakes.
Ciao to Italy!
