Hey, I know this is a long shot but just wondering if anybody lives near Holy Cross Church on Woodchurch Road in Oxton and wouldnt mind taking a photo of a gravestone for me if there is one. I know this is a little cheeky but i thought it was worth a try. I have all the details of the grave but its always better to see the real thing and its quite a way away from me so i wouldnt be able to go this year. Thanks for reading anyway

Hi luke,
May be able to help as I live near Oxton. However I am not exactly sure which church you mean.
Looking on Google I cannot find Holy Cross Church on Woodchurch Road.
Do you mean Holy Cross Church on what I would call the Woodchurch estate,
address Church Ln, Upton, Wirral, CH49

Brian

Hi Brian, yea im fairly sure your right with the address, its definatly in the small area its suposed to be in-i never had an actual address but i know that the church is quite old, its definatly at Woodchurch in Oxton and definatly Church of England and called Holy Cross. The grave im after is grave number 33, The Grave of John Jones, his two son Robert Halsall Jones and Uriah Halsall Jones and Uriah Halsall Jones' wife and daughter.
Its really good of you to offer to help Brian and its really appreciated, thankyou!

In an effort to help audbr I checked my copy of the Monumental Inscriptions of Holy Cross Church, Woodchurch.
I had to trawl through 62 Headstones that contained the surname Jones.
None matched the details supplied by gnorman.
None of the Jones stones had a number 33. (indeed only 1 stone was numbered 33)
In total there are 1820 transcribed memorials.
Sorry not to have better results.

Hi
The numbering of graves in MI booklets are not necessarily the official grave numbers, usually I have found that the transcriber numbers them 1 to ??? and includes a small plan of approximately where the grave is. In this case if there are 2 different sources of MI's then it stands to reason that they would be numbered differently

The copy I was using was the Cheshire Family History Society's MI's of Holy Cross Church Woodchurch.
The information contains the Inscription, the Section, Row & number.
Could andycand tell me the source for the excel file, so I can compare copies?

Hi Folks,
If somebody could let me have a plan of the graveyard.
That would be a great help in finding the grave to photograph.
If you have a map let me know and I will PM you my e-mail address.
