Title: 1901 Ancestry v PRO
Post by: suey on Tuesday 27 April 04 21:25 BST (UK)
Is the information on the 1901 Census on Ancestry exactly the same as the PRO site, has it been retranscribed or do Ancestry just use the same info.. for example if I can't find someone in the PRO index I won't find them on Ancestry ?

Hi Suey

To the best of my knowledge Ancestry have RE-TRANSCRIBED the 1901 census by their own staff - otherwise why have they only put a few counties on and not all at the same time if it was a copy of PRO transcription.

Ancestry's 1901 does not cover all areas but it does allow you to see the original census which is brilliant.
