Thanks Anne - Yes a bit of a mess isn't it, even the view others on the page is as big a mess..have not been game (as yet) to check the original, will do so when I can afford more credits on SP.
Thought it may have given me a lead as to his parents..
The Michie family are giving me real headaches  ::)
James and Euphemia are an indirect line, my direct is James Michie born around 1757 (have tis on another thread) cannot find his parents for love  nor money..cannot find his marriage to Charlotte Paterson nor his first born (I think) Ann about 1771, have all the other kids from this marriage !!!
It's a real puzzler..may sort it out eventually  :P
Regards Pat

I believe James MICHIE and Euphemia IZATT are my GGG-Grandparents via their son James (1830-1917) who changed his name to McKAY for the 1861 census.
James McKAY was in the 1871 census as James MICHIE (a visitor in Glasgow) and emigrated to Christchurch New Zealand with his wife Annie MATHIESON about 1873, though I've yet to find the voyage.  Annie MICHIE and the kids are in the 1871 census living at  Greenfield Plce in Alloa: (only first name and surname in the census)

Name    Age
Ann Michie    35 (1836)
Mary Stevenson Michie    16 (1855)
Thomas Mathieson Michie    7 (1864)
Margaret Brown Michie    5 (1866)
Edith Mathieson Michie    2 (1869) my GG grandmother
Frances Margaret Raynor Michie 9 Mo (1870)

Coincidence or what...decided to have another look at the Michie family this morning..so far have only got deat cert for James Mitchie, he died July 1863 Alloa Clacks. GRO465/00 0121, widower of Euphemia izatt.  Moulder by occupation, his son James is the witness (signed with his mark x) so assume James was illiterate ???
Wonder why he changed his name to McKay ???
Maybe because there were so many children  ::) tgo James and Euphemia ..I make it about thirteen..so am going to start checking them out..will let you know how I go.

All the best Patvp

Whoops - Parents of James (death cert) are listed as James Michie (furnace keeper) and Isabella Michie m.s Michie.  Cause of death - Palsy.

James Michie (1802) signed X on daughter Edith's birth record so I guess he didn't care whether it was spelt McKay or MICHIE.  I was just now checking out his siblings, such a lot of brothers and what a challenge to the Scottish naming pattern - mother's father, father's father, and father all named James.  Time to think up some new names!

James McKay nee Michie continued as an iron moulder in New Zealand.

I now have credits on SP so am welcome to suggestions for what other records to pay to view.

Hi Sue - Presume you have seen the death of James Snr, so we end up with another James Michie plus Isabella, so far am doing no damned good with a marriage or whatever  ??? but will keep plodding along.

Can imagine the conversation re the name Michie..with a scottish accent..the poor man probably ended up saying well, put down what you want ..Michie.Mickey/Mackie/McKay and as you say being illiterate would not know the difference.... AND I am still having problems  ;D  ;D and I can read and write...though have sometimes wondered about transcribers ...whoops  :o

As to naming patterns..will list for other..

Margaret 1828, James 1830, William 1832, John 1833, Thomas 1835, Robert 1837, Daniel 1839, David 1841, Izzatt 1843, Isabella 1845, Euphemia 1846.  Only 3 listed on IGI, have not yet checked SP, nor have I checked for a James and Isabella.

By the way my interest is that the Michie married in to the Marshall family...Regards Patvp

Izatt Michie c1843 - married Agnes Marshall 21 Jul 1871 Alloa, and they had eight children.

Have gathered following mainly from IGI re marriages of Michie family as above.

Margaret - No info.
James - Ann Matheson.  as you know  ;D
William - Euphemia Ramage 24 May 1858 Alloa (double checked on SP)
John - Martha Munro 18 Dec 1857.
Thomas - Elizabeth Bisset 13 Aug 1856 Alloa.
Robert - Mary Ann Dobbie 19 Jan 1863 (double checked SP)
Daniel - Isabella Munro 24 Aug 1860. Alloa.
David - Possibly a Isabel Simpson around 1861.

Isabella - no info.
Euphemia - John Gray 22 Aug 1864.

As you can see most info is IGI apart from the two or three if you count Izatt on SP..but am fast running out of credits as I started again on the Marshall family  ??? now I know why I put them on one side before  :o  ;D

Hi, i have just joined and now my first post so unsure if im doing this correctly. My line follows isabella michie born 1867 daughter of daniel.  Isabella worked as a servant and married coachman robert harper and they moved to live in milliken house in kilbarchan, my gran isabella was born 1907, she married duncan campbell and the moved to paisley where i still live. I would be really interested to see any photos of the ancestors. I have a photo of daniel and isabella i think (i cannot think who else the would be)i have a photo of daughter isabella born 1867 with a sister possibly. It would be great to hear.

Hi your first post looks fine.  Thanks for the info on Isabella.  I have no photos to offer but I do have a tree on ancestry.com.  My DNA matches several descendants of John MICHIE 1691-1764 and Agnes AITKEN 1700-1726.  These are the parents of James MICHIE b. 1735 who married Isobel MITCHELL b 1735, who in turn are the parents of Isabella MICHIE b 1763, the mother of James MICHIE 1801-1863 who married Euphemia IZATT 1808-1881.  Has anyone else had their DNA tested?
