Title: Autograph book WW1 soldiers entries. Scanned copies avail of named individuals
Post by: NDRFT on Thursday 21 May 09 20:15 BST (UK)
Hi all
I have available a page by page scanned copy of an autograph book kept by a family member whilst she was nursing the injured at West Ham Red Cross Hospital, Basingstoke and some photos - no names on them - of her patients.
I am happy to send scanned copies to any one with rellies in the list below. The list is not alphabetic nor date order - it is page by page and easier for me to recover them that way. Copyright for these remains mine but am happy to 'gift' them to living rellies. The list below is as presented and spelt in the book!!! Some entries don't say any more than a name and place others have drawings and text.
Have a look and pm me if you find a rellie? (wish I could type with more than 2 fingers!!!)

Brilliant stuff. I ought to get you to look up a few of mine !! Lol I have done them .

Look I think I will leave the info you offer on here, then if some one wants the copy of the page where their person has written in the book I have they can also see the info you have provided.
I am offering these to people as i know much it would mean to me to have some thing written (albeit a scan copy) by one of my rellies who served. To keep it just here is a waste?
Cheers

Hi there!

Found this thread a few days back whilst researching the family tree.

I am G W Moore's great-grandson, and I am thrilled to see that there is so much information on him here.

I would love to have scans of the signatures pertaining to my great-grandfather, and scans of any photos you may have.

My father (G W Moore's grandson) is equally excited with this development as we knew very little of George's military past, record and movements.

Thank you so much!

Hi
I am delighted that you found the thread and even more so that some one who has written in the book has family who have now found it - so to speak.
here is his entry hope it meets your expectations?
And of course to Mack for what he has added. If I can help with any more info let me know as I often get asked to 'find' old soldiers etc from WW1

That is sooo awesome!

My Dad will be all the more thrilled, as he is a huge fan of Ruskin and it will come as a pleasant surprise to know George was obviously a fan too.

You don't happen to have any of the photos you mentioned atall? Because I instantly recognised the writing by only reading the first word, and am very confident that I (or atleast my Dad) could pick him out of a crowd.

Thanks so much :-)

I have several WW! autograph books inherited from my Grandmother who was a QAIMNS(R) nurse during WW1 - never thought of listing the names/scanning - also a few photos of wounded men being treated in wards. Will put up a list in the next couple of weeks - should I start a new thread or use this one ??

I put this thread on in May 09 and folks still come back to it from time to time asking for a copy of an entry. So, in my humble opinion it would be better to prepare your own listing in a new thread, it may save confusion and be quicker for any one to search through?
Cheers

HI Nigel,

My great-grandfather was Claude Fidgeon. My dad still lives in southend and currently owns the Regency Hotel. My dad was 51 when I was born so I never got to meet my great-grandfather. Infact, I have not met much of my father's side of the family. If you have anything on Claude, I would really love to see it. Thanks so much for sharing with everyone:)

Regards,

Susie Fidgeon
