This is info I have been given about what ship they came to NZ on.
They came to Auckland NZ approx 1921 on the Ship ‘Maheno’
Along with Victoria was her brother George A Monaghan (known as ‘Sonny’) and sister Ida Eadith MONAGHAN
Victoria's Mother - Florence Mary MURRAY and Earnest MURRAY (Florence’s 2nd husband) along with their children
William, Jack, and Ted
Cheers

I have just done a check on-line with BDM and see that the William John MURRAY that died in 1983 is not mine as their is a birth for him in NZ and mine was born in NSW, Australia.
This is from NSW BDM site
SURNAME: MONAGHAN
Given Name/s: William
Index Year: 1906
Father:
Mother: Florence M
Place of Registration: LEICHHARDT
Event: Birth
Cross Reference: R
Registration Year: 1906
Reg No: 4438
SURNAME: MARYOTT
Given Name/s: William
Index Year: 1906
Father:
Mother: Florence M
Place of Registration: LEICHHARDT
Event: Birth
Registration Year: 1906
Reg No: 4438
As you can see - they have the same reference number. I did check for any other births to a Florence under the name of MARYOTT - but William was the only one.
Have to wait till August before I can request any transcriptions as that will be when I shall have some funds available.

Hi Newbe
Just reading through the above in conjunction with your thread on on OZ board (re: William's brother George) ... I'm confused. ???
On the OZ thread you've said that the "children from the first marriage stayed in Australia". So, if I'm reading all this correctly, that would mean that William was one of the children who remained in Australia ? Is that correct ?
[I take it that the death notice for Florence was published in a New Zealand newspaper ?]

it was only George (Sonny) , Ida and William that came out to NZ.
Death notice for Florence is from NZ HEARLD
George (Sonny) went back to Australia at some stage as he is on 1930 and 1936 roll in Australia.Hi Newbe

Yes that is what I thought at the time. But I now have to correct myself as you can see.
I have no idea as to who William's wife is or names of his children.
Have sent email to National Library for Ida Eadith Brook's death notice to see if that helps and also Victoria May OLLIFF death notice as well.
William's sister Ida died 21 October 1950
Victoria died 27 March 1982
Both should be in the NZ Herald and or The Star
Hope I have made some sense here

Hi Newbe
Did that death notice "from William and family", appear in the NZ Herald on the same day as other notices for Florence ?? (My thinking is, that if it was published say a day or two later, then that may indicate that the person who inserted the notice, might not have been resident in NZ) ?

same day. I do not have a date but there was one lot in the NZ Herald and I think the other lot were in TheAuckland Star or Herald the next day.
The one in NZ Herald was published on 2 March 1970, so there must have been one in The Auckland Star as well.
The funeral record does not say which is which. I already have the one for The Herald and The one that mentions Bill is not in it. So I am thinking it must be from The Auckland Star.

looks like I may have found him.
he died 6 July 1987 and was cremated 7 July 1987 ashes scattered 8 July 1987.
Date of birth may be a year out I am not sure.
Am now waiting for the funeral director to get back to me with more info.
Mothers maiden name has been confirmed as MARYOTT.
Looks like another printout to get at some stage.

Forgot to add he was cremated at the North Shore Crematorium.

Have now received conformation that the William MURRAY who died 6 July 1987 is the one I have ben lookinf for and have been given his wife's name and children's names as well.
Just thought I would let you all know.
I must say this would have been hard work for anyone looking for a single name, no middle name and not even sure what the surname was.
Interesting to see the fathers name was Ernest Lawrence Murray. This is not on the birth cert on line at NSW BDM as it is under MONAGHAN and MARYOTT
Must say it has been a good mornings work so far in a chilly Christchurch

Hi, we have just discovered my unknown Grandfather is possibly either a son or grandson of Florence’s. Do you have any information on this family? Joys of DNA matches. Thanks

:) thank you so much for your help. My sister and I have employed someone to assist with the DNA side of things just so we can understand the connection. It will be nice for my mum to know who her Dad was. Mum just assumed the Dad her brought her up was her real Dad! The wonders of DNA reveal the truth.

As Spades said if you reply 2 more times with a smiley face then we can use the personal message system to talk off here.
