Can anyone help decipher this ocupation from a 1901 census return?
Thanks
-
I think it's Wagon Work Labourer
(and someone added Railway - Wagon afterwards)
:)
-
To dollar answer, thanks
-
Agreed, the addendum would have been made when the entries were collated I think. What town was it in, at that time many had railway wagon builders?
-
Yes, It was Smethwick, home of "The Birmingham Rail and Carriage Wagon Works"
-
I would say that is fairly conclusive unless you want to try to get his employment records which may still exist in a local archive.
-
The added part is Roly Wagon... I have come across this before, on a census record, but the one I was viewing said Roly Wagon Driver ;D

Can't make roly out of this entry; still sure it's railway as rly is a standard recognised abbreviation for railway. What is a roly wagon though?
-
Yes, it's Rly Wagon ... Tati had it right in the first reply.

Apologies... I seem to have got it wrong :) The one I mentioned seeing previously must have been Rly Wagon Driver and I've obviously misread that too! ;D
