Hi Sue
1851 lists George Watts, Hannah Watts and Precilla Cross in K B
I wonder if Hannah Cross married George Watts after G C's death ( mabe in 1830 )
Is it possible you have access to confirm this or not as the case may be

you have been extremely helpful.
I think that we are on the right track and maybe someone in Oxford section can shed
light on the 'widow' question
Kindest regards

Hi
I checked the transcripts of St Thomas for that marriage, but unfortunately is doesn't say wether either of the parties were bach, sp or wid - it does give Hannah signing (x) , witnesses James Maltby & MAry Philpot, the marriage was by banns and both were otp

Hannah Watts appears on 1851 as 61 born Kingston ,I'm almost certain this is the widow
of George Cross who died 1830.
Any information regarding the birth of Hannah Preston c. 1790 or death of Hannah Watts
1851 - 1861 would be appreciated.
A witness at Hannah's first marriage was a Sarah Preston - sister ?

I am very new to rootschat, and found thsi reference to George Cross in Kingston Bagpuize. I am sure George fits into the family I am searching.
James born 1829 to George and Hannah was convicted of burning a stack of barley and transported to Western Australia. in 1852. He left behind a wife Mary Ann Cox/Fuller and a newborn son James.
1861 census shows him as a plowboy living with his uncle Charles Fuller at Charney
If anyone has any further information on George Cross, or James Cross junior Born 1850 KB I would be grateful.
-
Hi
Last info re James sen. I had was 1851 - in St Lawrence Prison Reading, I imagine you
have that. The Charles Fuller mentioned is I assume, father of Alfred Fuller who married
James' half sister Precilla in 1852 ?
regards
robsdad
-
Many thanks. Yes I have that information.
I am wondering what happened to Mary Anne Cox/ Fuller and James (the baby) after James Snr was transported to Australia. He went on to marry again in Australia and If anyone is following this family I am happy to share information.
Thanks again
Ruth

To save duplication REhill had more information re: James Jr. answered on another site here
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0kf7/ REhill you could pick up that marriage in 1869 to see if it fits
( am adding this as a new rootschatter should be joining this thread soon which will open up the thread for more searches...)
-
Hi ReHill,
It seems we are researching the same James Cross. I am an Australian descendant and would love to know what information you have on him as I have been trying to find the name of his wife etc. which I have found on this thread. I am also new to rootscaht and not sure if I have posted correctly
many thanks
Sue
-
Hi Ruth,
We seem to be researching the same family.
Perhaps we are relatives?
I am in Western Australia and am descended from James Cross, the stack burning arsonist. I would love to collaberate with you.
Many kind regards
Sue

Hi Sue
I have been searching James Cross for some years. I have been doing this research for a close friend, so I am not related in any way. However my friend is also a direct descendant.
We have much information on James Cross who was transported to WA and am happy to share information. James Snr had a son James born just before he was transported and we have been searching for him for years..without much success.
The other researchers on this site have been wonderful.
I am not sure how to contact you privately.
I will keep an eye on this site, but in the meantime contact me at (*)

Hi robsdad. Thank you so much for your kind sharing of information and showing me I have opened the wrong door re Hannah and the Preston line you say Richards parents are John & Elizabeth so have I also had the wrong information-on it being John & Jane Rowlands?
if so then the paper shredder will be working overtime and I am back to the drawing board .
