Post by: BassinghamTerrier on Sunday 21 June 09 08:44 BST (UK)
Hi Lynn

Thanks for your offer of lookups on this subject.
Could you please look and see if there are any PASHBY or LIGHTFOOT wills in this?

Cheers!

MT ;)

Hello Lynn

You seem to be knowledgeable about old wills and probate in Yorkshire, so I hope you don't mind the following request for ideas/help.

I have traced my family (Hill) back to a Henry Hill who married in 1639 in Kirkburton, West Riding.  His likely birth years fall in a large gap in the Kirkburton parish records, so I am trying to find alternative ways of determining his parentage.  One could be through any will left by his father (possibly a Richard Hill, bapt 1573) - a long shot, as there's little evidence of wealth or wealthy living in the family.

So, could you advise me as to where/how I might me able to examine wills from Kirkburton in the general period of mid 1500s to mid 1600s?

Thanks.

Hi Lynn
thanks very much for looking up the Radcliffe/Ratcliffe name, I did not realise there would be so many of them.
Don't worry about searching after 1585 for me as anything after that is starting to get a litte bit late, once again thanks very much.

Hi I hope you havent had too many requests yet, could you possibly have a look for Chippyingdale and the like for me please? Im looking for siblings or parents of a man named George Chippyngdale of Skipton in Craven. I have a copy of his will and know of one sister he had named Ada but I cant find any more family. I have Georges family as he moved out of Yorkshire and a marriage for Ada but would love to know more about any others there might have been. I suspect Georges line may have moved back up to yorkshire sometime later and some family members still in Yorkshire would give them a reason to go back, hope you can help, Laura

Georges will is dated 1587 if it helps at all, thankyou so much

thanks Gill thats great ill have a run through them see if I can match any, I dread to think how many there are in the rest of Yorkshire now!!!Ive been so intent on finding the early mob i didnt think about the others and only read the date of the post. If you have access to lists of later wills  I wonder if you would mind trying the Otley area for me? except for my grandad all the rest of the family are from Otley and close by. hope you dont mind :) thanks ever so much Ive had some real mysteries lately trying to find wills of a section of family that moved county. not sure if im helping but the most common spellings ive found are chippendale , chippindale and chippingdale... odd ones of dall and dail, daile. I was wondering where you have gotten the list from too it seems really useful and ive never come across anyone with a list of wills before.

another thanks, laura  :D

Hi Laura,

For some reason not notified for a posting on this topic, must have pressed a wrong button somewhere???

With the Origins subscription, not very pleased at all with what you can get on their site for the money but you can get a 72 hours sub for £7.50 which may be worth getting every now & then as they are updating records all the time.

Found 1 in Hunslet, 2 in Leeds & 1 for Guiseley for "chips"
CHIPPENDALE       MARY       HUNSLET       YORKSHIRE       1777, JAN       E       Will       vol.120, f.       1771011777060052.tif/19

CHIPPENDALE       THOMAS       LEEDS       YORKSHIRE       1763, MAY       E       Admon       vol.107, f.       1757061770120076.tif/30

CHIPPINDALE    CHARLES    LEEDS    YORKSHIRE    1857, MAY    P    Will    vol.244, f.411    2223/5

CHIPPINDALE       ARABELLA       GUISELEY       YORKSHIRE       1841, AUG       E       Admon       vol.204, f.       1840031842080064.tif/2

Sorry but my geography isn't very good in the West Riding but if you know of any more places, let me know.

Talking of chips, could just eat some fish & chips ;D

Gill

Hi Lynne
Just wondered if you could kindly look for 2 of my family names Kilvington and Fowler.  Dont think they will make a long list like some of your other names lol
Thanks

Hi Lynne:  I haven't worked out whether your list covers all of Yorkshire or only the North Riding.  ;D

I'm looking for Archbell and Allenby in the area of Tadcaster, Healaugh and York.

Would be grateful to know if there is anything in your list.  Many thanks.
