Title: Flintshire boats

Does anyone know about Flintshire boats? Its just that my ancestor from Bagilt is on the 1891 census as a cook on a boat called the Eva ith four others from Flintshire. I wondered if there was a good fishing industry or something.

Hello Kat,
All along the North Wales coast lots of People made a living Fishing. It was also very busy with many Ships carrying cargo of all kinds.
A friend of mine has a list of about 25 ship building yards from Talacre to Chester. The one in Bagillt was the Chesterhead Company 1841-1863.
At that time most of the Family's along this Coast had someone who's Occupation had something to do with the River or the Sea.

Hi Kat,

Another idea to consider is tourism ! In 1891 Bagillt was on the route of the London and North Western Railway company.

I have read about paddle steamers and the like taking visitors over to Blackpool and the Lake District for day trip.

I guess to find out more you would need to find where the ship was at the time of the census and the occupation of the others on board.
