I'm searching for information on the death of my ancestor Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY, born 2 May 1865 in Killarney, Ireland, married Louisa Atkinson in Shepparton, VIC, Australia, and likely lived in later life (1913 onwards) in Baking Board, QLD, Australia. Searches for his death registration on the online indexes for VIC, NSW, and QLD have been fruitless. I suspect that he lived out his life in QLD (as a farmer) and that he died after 1929, which is the upper limit of the online index for QLD. Anybody willing and able to help me find information on his death would be much appreciated! ~PianoMan

1913, 1925 Electoral Rolls
Daniel, grazier, and Louisa, home duties, MCSWEENEY at Columboola, Qld Division of Maranoa, subdivision of Miles,
But also in 1913 Division of Maranoa, subdivision of Dalby
Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY, labourer, Baking Board.
1919 Division of Lilley, subdivision of Nundah
Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY, traveller, Union St, Nundah
Margaret Olive MCSWEENEY, home duties, same address.
1925 Division of Oxley, subdivision of Bulimba
Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY, manager, Real Ave, Norman Park
Margaret Olive MCSWEENEY, home duties, same address.
In 1931 Daniel Gerald (salesman) and Margaret Olive are at 68 Donald St Coburg Vic.
Looks as though there are two Daniel McSweeneys, one married to Louisa, one with the second name of Gerald and married to Margaret. The one married to Margaret may well be the son of the one married to Louisa? Columboola is about 21k from Baking Board.

I see a birth in Qld for
1911/C2916
McSweeney Murial Veronica, father Daniel Gerald, mother Louisa Celesta Atkinson
This confirms that there are two Daniel Geralds, father and son. Births only go to 1914 so there may be later ones.
The marriage of the younger Daniel:
1917/B19986 Eastaughffe, Margaret Olive to McSweeney, Daniel Gerald

The WWW1 record for Daniel junior has his mother Louisa's name crossed out and his father's name inserted. So, can we assume that Louisa is deceased during enlistment and that we have the second marriage to Margaret in 1917.

According to the age on the war record the lad was born in 1891 and his mother was Louisa and not Margaret.
It is the correct family as the address is Baking Board.

Thanks for that! Yes I can confirm, the Daniel Gerald that was married to Margaret Olive is definitely the son of the DG married to Louisa.
If Daniel Gerald (Snr) does not appear on any electoral rolls after 1925, how safe is it to assume that he died before the next roll was published (1931??)?
Also, I'm interested in actually obtaining a copy of his death certificate--how can I be sure of its existence (in QLD) before I start commiting any money...?

Looks like the QLD BMD site may be updating the death index to 1979.
If not Deaths up to 1976? are available at the Queensland State Archives. Requires a visit.

I was afraid you'd say that. I'm in Perth, and holidaying in QLD isn't an option for me at the moment.
Thanks for everyone's help and input! I've got a few more leads now! Much appreciated!

Hey PianoMan,
We are probably related I guess. Nanna Olive (Margaret Olive Eastaughffe) is my Great Grandmother on my mother's side. Daniel Gerald McSweeney (Jnr & Snr) would be my Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather.
Been researching the Eastauffe's of late and came across this site tonight.
I live in Brisbane, so let me know if you'd like me to help out.

Now a new found relative is the best outcome one could hope for. And living in Brisbane, too, what a bonus! ;D
