Hi
I think my husbands great x 1 grandfather Henry Johnson was born in Sudbury abt 1849
His father was William and could have married either Susannah Tuffin or Susan Sidey about 1844
Any information would be wonderful as I have hit a wall !!!!
Many thanks

1841 census
SUDBURY UNION WORKHOUSE, SUFFOLK
SUSAN TUFFEN 18 N (not born in county)
------------------
only two Susan Sidey (variants) in Suffolk/Norfolk/Essex and they are in Essex in 1841.
SUSAN SIDAY 28 GREAT HENNY, ESSEX
--------------
SUSAN SIDAY 15 LAMARSH, ESSEX
---------------
their are 13 William Johnson's aged between 15-25 in the 1841 census for Suffolk...........remember that if the age is not known in the 1841 it is rounded down ie 15-20 = 15, 25-30 = 25 etc etc

I cannot find a Henry born circa 1849 in Sudbury itself on the 51 index, but there is one born at Lawshall which is in Sudbury Registration District. However, his parents are Thomas and Ann.
He doesn't seem likely, but if you would like the details, let me know.

I think I may have found my Henry Johnson, it looks as though he may have been born in Halesworth.
I have found a family of Johnsons with the parents of William and Maria living in Chediston Street ( these being Henry's grandparents ) on the 1861 census although he is recorded as Harry !!!! and it looks as though his mother was Elizabeth, with a maiden name of Denny .
So thanks to you both for helping me

Hello girlstitcher
Henry's are often called Harry's and have been for hundreds of years, so not a surprise there!
1841 Census
Chediston Street, Halesworth, Suffolk.......HO107/1015/16
William Johnson 40 ??? Y
Maria " 4 Y
Hezecah " 14 Y
Hepseba " 12 Y
Samuel " 15 shoemaker ap Y
William " 9 Y
Sidny " 8 Y
Eliza " 7 Y
Harriot " 5 Y
------------------
also in Chediston Street
William Johnson 20 painter J (journeyman) Y
-------------------
*Maria is definitely transcribed as aged 4 and on looking at the original it is as clear as day...........so why is she placed immediately below William aged 40!............and not in her pecking order at the bottom of the pile........one has to assume the 0 has completely disappeared over time or the enumerator forgot to put the 0 to the 40?
Hopefully this will lead to the 1851 for this family and William aged 20 and you get closer to your goal
Have fun

Hi
I came accross this having searched on Johnson and Halesworth to see if I had missed anything prior to joining Roots. I have similar names, but there are some differences and I wonder if I have missed something, or got it wrong. I would hate to find I am tracing the wrong family!
I have William Johnson (1799) married to Maria. They have children Charles, Samuel, Maria, Hezikiah, Hepzibah, William, Sidney, Eliza, Ephraim, Harriet and George and possibly Alfred and Phillip. However, there is no Henry (Harry).
William snr. is a chimney sweep and his son William (b 1831) is described as Artist and Colourist in 1861, Artist landscape painter in 1881 and 1891.
Sidney (b 1833). is my husband's 2 x ggrandfather.
I would be grateful for any reassurance that I am on the right track. Perhaps "girlstitcher" and I have ancestral in-laws in common, although I haven't come across the Denny family.
Thanks
Lynne

Hi, I know it's been quite a while since your post but I believe I could be distantly related to you!
My great, great, great grandfather was Hezekiah Johnson. It would be great if you could get in touch.

Hi Sarah, I am still here! Happy to share information with you.
