Hi all
I'm trying to uncover more information about my ancestor, Benjamin Ellis. I believe he was born in 1792 at Mitcham to John & Sarah Ellis, and that he later married Sarah Simmonds also at Mitcham in 1817.
The problems start from here, as I have found very little regarding children. I'm aware he had a son, Edward who is my ancestor, who was born about 1821, but not baptised until 1824. I'm also aware of a potential daughter, Emily, was baptised in 1822 at Newington, Surrey. After this, I cannot find any other details about Ben or Sarah, though it looks like Ben may have died in 1838 and is buried at Croydon. This needs confirming though
Has anyone else come across this family?

Hi Valda
That was the burial record I saw that made me think that this is my Benjamin. I've order this Benjamin Ellis' death certificate, hopefully revealing Sarah, Edward or Emily as the informant
It is very annoying that I have not been able to find anything on this family after 1822. So bad is it, that I have not been able to find Edward on either the 1841 or 1851 census'. The next time I saw him after his baptism in 1824 is 1861, living with his family in Tunbridge Wells, Kent

The death certificate that I ordered does belong to my Benjamin Ellis. The informant was his wife Sarah, so hopefully I'll find her in the 1841 census

Hi Lee
Other than the possibility that she too could have died, it is also possible that she remarried so if you can't find her it maybe worth checking out that avenue of investigation as well.
