Hi all,
I've just started my mother's side of the family and finding they are from Ireland have become very frustrated and confused!!
I started simply to find some births but this is hard and it doesn't appear that ancestry.co.uk has Irish birth records... is this correct?
If anybody can help me or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I have some info but some of it is from the family search/IGI index and I wondered how I can confirm it... birth records would be great.
Here goes...
Catherine Bond b. 1875 Pillaton, Kilkenny, she moved over to Formby, Lancashire sometime before 1900 where she married John Bond in Formby, Lancashire (I have marriage cert for this). She then moved back to Waterford, Ireland with her daughter Elizabeth Bond, I believe when her husband died.
Her father was John Bond who I think was born abt 1844 Kilkenny, Ireland and her mother was Catherine Ryan (I can't find anymore info on her), and they married about 1870 in Kilkenny. Researched from family search.
Is there any way I can confirm this info and where would I be able to research further and perhaps find her grandparents.

Index to Irish civil registration (births, deaths and Catholic marriages from 1864, other marriages from 1845) are online (free) and will give you the details needed to order the actual certificates.

IGI (www.familysearch.org) has some, not all, extracted Irish births 1864-c1882). There are 5 children of John Bond and Catherine Ryan listed (see IGI for full details)- Johanna (1871), Mary Frances (1873), Catherine (1875), Eliza (1877), John William (1879).

I have found two Catherine Bonds on the pilot.family search site but can't find any info on how I order the certificates. Do you know aghadowey? Will page and volume indexes correspond to a record office somewhere in Ireland or Kilkenny?
Out of interest... What is the difference between this site and the family search site?

you can order research certs from GRO by post. see : www.groireland.ie
the index details you need to fill in on the form are
Name
record type (e.g. birth)
year/quarter
registration district
volume
page number
The familysearch pilot site is based on the actual index book that are available in the GRO research room. The IGI is based on either transcribed entries from registers, or submitted entries.
