William Murray, 48 (skipper)
Thomas Thomson, 49
John Ritchie, 57
James Anderson, 28
Alexander Bird, 19
James McArthur, 20
James Mackie, 20.

Hi Hibee,

I have 2 John Ritchie's born 1825 in Prestonpans, 1 survived to 1913, the other could be this one. Will try and get some more details.

Do you have anymore details, was it a storm, etc.

Hi Hibee,

I downloaded death certificate from Scotland Peoples website, and the John Ritchie aged 57, was married to a Janet McKenzie on 2nd July 1848, Johns parents were John Ritchie and Roy Coull. The certificate states that he was drowned at sea but bodies were not found. On the same page, is the death of crewman, James Mackie aged 20, parents were William Mackie and Janet McKirdy?.

This was not the John Ritchie on my tree.

Any relative message me and I will send details to you.

Hi Hibee,

I thought I would be related through John Ritchie but find I have 2 relatives in the crew, after all.

I have found the skipper, William Murray who married Elizabeth Flucker in my tree, his son, Jonathon married my Grandfather's elder sister, Ann Gordon Buchanan. William's parents were John Murray (Sawyer) and Marion Cochrane, he had 3 sons and 3 daughters, and death was registered by his son, Archibald born 1867.

Another relative of mine was James Anderson, 28, who married Agnes Steel, not Peden as in DC, on 17th March 1876. James was the son of David Anderson who married Susan Buchanan, Susan was the daughter of my Grt x3 Grandfather, Daniel Buchanan and Mary Crawford. Death was registerd by David Anderson, father.

James McArthur, 20, single, parents were Robert McArhur (deceased) and Euphemia Marshall. His brother, Robert registered the death.

Hi Hibee,

Downloaded the other certificate with the other 2 crew, also.

Thomas Thomson, 46, married to Elizabeth (Elspeth) Smith 14 Nov 1857 Aberdeen, his parents were George Thomson (deceased before 1857) and Elizabeth Flucker, who remarried a George McKenzie in 1850.

Alexander Bird, 19, single, born 1 Sep 1963, parents were John Bird and Catherine Inglis, who married 10 Oct 1841 in Prestonpans. Death was registered by father, John Bird.

Hope this helps, some of the other relatives, if you want to certifictes just pm me.

Hi Tom

Thanks for all this.

Alexander Bird was my great-granduncle, and I have all his family details.

Would you like a copy of the Scotsman report of the tragedy?

Hi Hibee,

Just like to thank you for the article re the Queensland, I did receive it. We have since proved that "wonka" and I share the same family.

His relative Susan Buchanan, mother of James Anderson is younger sister of my 2xGreat grandfather, Archibald Buchanan 1810 to 1885.

Its a small world!

Thanks again,

Tom

Hi

I'm a distant relative of James Mackie. His brother Thomas is my maternal grandmother's father. He would have been my Granny's uncle.

His parents were William Mackie and Janet McHardy.

Thanks for your post as it was a motivator in getting me to check my family history to see if there was a link to James Mackie.

My great granddad Thomas married a Jane Thomson who's father was Thomas Thomson, also a fisherman. I'm trying to find if he was the Thomas Thomson that also died in the sinking.

All the best

Thomas Thomson who drowned was married to Elizabeth Simpson, his parents were George Thomson and Betsy Flucker  Thomas was 46 on his death certificate.

Hi Tom

Thanks for your reply and thanks for the info.

"My" Thomas Thomson is different to the one drowned with the Queensland.

I'd be grateful if you could send a copy of the death certificate for James Mackie.

I'll posta couple of times so that we can use the pm system. Not sure what that is though!
