Title: Town Traveller?
Post by: valr on Sunday 09 August 09 22:50 BST (UK)
Hi
I have an ancestor called Samuel Jackson. In the 1841 census he is living in Thurlow Place, Brixton Surrey. It gives his occupation as Town Traveller and it says he and his wife Sarah were born "In Ireland Scotland or Foreign Parts "(ie that box is ticked.) in about 1801.
I have been unable to find them in any later censuses.
Does this mean he was a gypsy? Any ideas why I cant find any further records at all even checking Irish and Scottish records ...
Thanks for any thoughts
Val
