Hello Everyone,   I am looking for the Parents of Raynier/Rainey Hughes born abt 1870. place unknown.  Married 21st Feb 1895 to Thomas Bull son of Stephen Bull. At North Eling, Hanpshire.  This couple had a daughter also call Raynier baptised 23rd Sep 1900 at Binstead Hampshire.

have you applied for the marriage certifcate?
as it maybe that she was married before? as there doesn't seem much info in census etc
i did notice the 1901 her name is spelt as Runa, if it was a 2nd marriage would explain why..........

Ty for your reply, marriage cert says spinster, no fathers name though.  the closest iI have got  is a Reginia Hughes, d/o Sarah Hughes.

She was only 20yrs at the marriage.  I havn,t seen the census entry as yet, for some reason I couldn,t find them.

Thankyou again.

looks like Thomas Bull died oct nov Dec 1900
just after the child was born aged 37
County: Hampshire
Volume: 2c
Page: 69

so possible the young age she is, that she remarried but can't find anything ???
plenty for you to investigate, as they only married in 1895 harriet was born before the marriage

That looks quite possible.  Which census years  have you found them in?  Birth/baptism to see how the name is recorded there?

Who were the witnesses to the marriage - have you identified them?

Casalguidi :)

Thankyou both for the info.  As you say Casalguid plenty now for me to be looking for.  It seems looking through all possible census yrs her name is spelt several different ways.  well done les for finding her in 1901.  As you say this could be her sister and bro in law. xxxxx

The 1901 census shows:

Sarah BULLEN head wid 51 missionary to Gipsies? b.Erchfont Wiltshire living at North Eling, Hampshire RG13/1052 folio 83 page 13

According to earlier census (1871/1881) her husband was William but can't see anything to connect them ::)

Similarly, according to the 1901 census, Charles GEAR was the parish clerk ::)

Casalguidi :)

This one was not easy to find -
1871 Census, RG10-1253-78-16, Kinterbury, Berkshire

Erenia Hughes  1     Pewsey, Wiltshire, England     Daughter
Sarah Hughes  21    Bentley, Hampshire, England   Head

The Silas is Silas Bland born 1852 (have cert) died St Austell 1925, buried at Biscovery, Par on the 20 Jul 1925, I was unable to find a burial for Sarah Hughes, the PR's after 1925 seem to be water damaged and difficult and in some cases impossible to read, I did not find a Headstone for either of them!
5 of Sarah's sons enlisted in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry on  the same day in 1915.

RG10-1253-71-2 Kintbury, Berkshire has Matilda Hughes on the image and if you compare the children with Martha Hughes in the 1881 census you will find that some of them appear to be the same children.

The above information is a mixture of my own research and that of 2 other family members.

From the CWG web site -
Name:                                HUGHES, HAMLYN

Nationality:                  United Kingdom
Rank:                             Private
Regiment/Service:           Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry
Unit Text:                       10th Bn.
Date of Death:              04/09/1916
Service No:                 23239
Additional information:   Son of Silas Bland Hughes and Sarah Hughes, of Biscovey Moors, Par, Cornwall.
Casualty Type:              Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference:   Pier and Face 6 B.

A neighbour is a granddaughter of Thomas Bull and Raynier Hughes. Her father was their son Thomas. She would like any information on their family. Thank you

Hi Stu1943,

Is your neighbour based in Cornwall ? We have just received a letter just wanted to check if it was the same person.

Regards

Sarah :)

Yes she is. We ordered a couple of certificates but they were the wrong ones. Her relatives seemed not to register their births. I thought she had given up, but it seems she has contacted you in desperation.
Stu
Just had a message from Rovert on the list so I can now put them in touch. Thank you
