Hi All.
Is anyone (besides Alan Clarke :)) related to this family.
I have P.M. Alan so await a reply. :)
Henry H and Sarah's daughter Rose Love married Henry Edgley,
(have a copy of their marriage certificate in non-conformist church).
Also their son Henry Hornsey Love married Mary Ann Rose.
Please feel free to get in touch about the families.
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy,
Yes, I am related to the Tiplers, although I don't show any Love people in my tree, what is the dob of this particular Sarah ?
John
-
Hi John.
Sarah Tipler was born 1858, her father was James a Stone Mason.
She married Henry H Love in 1876.
Ring any bells. :)
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy,
Yes, a bell is rung, she is in my tree but I do not show her marriage as I did not know who she married. She was one of ten children born to James Tipler and Elizabeth Corby and was a 6th cousin 3 times removed of mine.
John
-
Maybe as the link is found you would like to P.M. me then John.
It was sad to see her and some of the family in the workhouse
in 1871, although with James being 60 and she only 12, I suppose
he couldn't cope with them all. :(
Sandy
-
Hi again John.
Thanks for the P.M. :)
If you have not seen it on Alan's web site there is a picture
of the son of Henry and Sarah, and also his wife and some
of their children.
I think this is Alan's link to the family.
Sandy
-
HI John
Thank you for the information I received from you yesterday.
Much appreciated.
I have also now received a reply from Alan which has added more
information. Thanks to him also.
Sandy
-
Hi Alan/John.
Alan thanks again for more information this evening.
I am going to add the info from the marriages to your strays list,
although they are in the Northampton Town, yet a later date.
Sandy

Hi All.
John I managed to find a few Tipler Baptisms for James and Elizabeth yesterday.

Thanks Sandy, I will add those baptism dates into my tree, I do not have a fiche of St. Sepulchre for the period when these children were born, that leaves three prior to 1842 and one in 1848 and 1853.
I wonder if MaryAnn had died prior to Ann being baptised in 1850. ?
John
-
Hi Sandy, just realised Mary Ann was still alive when Ann was baptised, I note that James Tipler was an inmate of the workhouse in 1871 and 1881 and 1884 when he died, is there any record of when he was first admitted. And I wonder if he was an inmate for a continuous 14 or more years.?
John
-
Hi John.
I trawled through the St. Sepulchre's Church Records
and there was no other baptisms in the Church.
As you more than likely now it is a central church, therefore
a lot of baptisms to each year.
As they were living in Silver Street, they could have baptised at
All Saints, if no one else's notes I will look at a later date.
Are you doing a one study on Tiplers, especially from Ecton.
I merely ask as I think I saw a marriage in the Earls Barton
Baptist Chapel, I need to check.
Sandy
-
Hi John.
Sorry about that we posted togetherish. :)
I have no idea of your query I am afraid about the
admittance of James to the Workhouse.
I do have some workhouse records, but they are earlier.
I think it would be a visit needed to the Record Office,
if they hold that time period.
Sorry can not help further.
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy,
No I am not doing a Tipler one name study in the sense of all of England but I am interested in all Tipler's in Northants as I am belive they all share a common ancestry. The Earls Barton baptist entry would be of interest.
John
-
Hi John I will find in awhile.
William Tipler seems to have a burial in St. Sepulchre's.
It notes Silver Street as abode, June 17 1858, aged 22 years.
There is also a possibility that James and Elizabeth had another son.
Thomas Tipler, Silver Street, buried Sep 27 1846, aged 2 weeks, also
in St. Sepulchre's.
Sandy
-
Looks like James's wife Elizabeth followed hence
James entry into Workhouse.
St Sepulchre's.
Elizabeth Tipler, Silver Street, buried 3 Apr 1864 aged 50.
I am getting to build a picture of the family now.
Sandy
-
Marriage at Earls Barton Baptist Chapel.
Have edited this as I have realised the couple may still be living.
Sandy
-
Alan Tipler may well be the son of John Smith Tipler / Ethel Lester of Ecton, this Alan was born in Ecton in 1920.
The Thomas Tipler of Silver Street buried in 1846 is new information to me as he obviously did not survive long enough to show up in a census. I will add him in as he can only have belonged to James and elizabeth, he slots comfortably into a gap in the births.
John
-
Hi John
I found the other baptisms today for the Tipler children.
That is all except Thomas who only being 2 wks when he was
buried he was more than likely not baptised. :(

Hi, hope you don't mind me getting in touch but I've just stumbled upon this site whilst looking for any information about my recent ancestors (my son has a homework to attempt a basic family tree!). I'm don't intend going back anywhere near as far and as comprehensively as you have but it would be nice to know a bit more to pass on e.g. about my grand and great-grandparents who came from Ecton. I've recently visited the churchyard which I hadn't been to since I was a child and unfortunately was surprised to find I cannot even locate my grandparents graves although I was able to show my boy many other Tipler graves!
All the best
Ashley Tipler
-
Hi Ashley.
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
Just ask and we will see if we can help you further.
Sandy
-
Hi Ashley,
What were the names of your Grandparents / Great Grandparents ?
Regards, John
-
Hi thanks for the replies.
My grandmother died I think aged about 81 when I was very young, not even sure of her first name, may have been elizabeth but my grandfather lived into his 90's and was George Alfred Tipler. He lived in the High Street with his front door facing directly up the road leading to the church. I have found out from information on the Ecton Village website that his father was Henry and mother was Fanny. Not sure from the information on the website whether Henry had 5 or 6 other children as well as my grandfather. My father was Denis Tipler and he is shown in a school photo on the Ecton website. He had 2 brothers, Lionel and Gerald (whose grave is in the churchyard). Although I remember tending both grandparents (and Gerald's) graves when I was a boy I now cannot find any memorial stones although I was sure I remembered where the graves were!
thanks for your offers of help.
regards
Ashley
-
Hi Ashley,
We are second cousins and you are in my family tree, Henry Tipler and Fanny are my Great Grandparents, your Grandfather George Alfred was my Grand Uncle.
Henry and Fanny had six children, their daughter Nora Lydia was my Grandmother.
Henry and Fanny's grave is on the same side of the path as Sarah Jane's grave but is close to the corner of the Church, it is not a head stone but kerb stones with the inscription In loving memory of FANNY TIPLER died Dec. 22nd 1940 aged 91. Also HENRY her husband died Oct. 21st 1895 aged 49. Also HENRY EDWARD their son died Feb. 24 1948 aged 68. "Resting"
On my visits to Ecton I could see no grave for your Grandparents George and Mary-Ann Maria Tipler, you would need to check the burials register for Ecton, 1976 and 1968 respectively to see if they were buried there.
Any more information you need just let me know, you can PM me if you wish.
Regards, John
-
Hi Ashley, John.
Ashley I have just gone through 500+ photo I have of the graves in
Ecton Churchyard and although I can see quite a few Tipler ones I can
not see the kerb stone one John mentions. :-\
Sandy
-
Hi Sandy,
Can't find it sounds a bit ominous :o it has been a while since I visited but in 1999 the kerbstones were between a Vase on plaque "In loving memory of FROST BAKER died 24th June 1960" and an old Sarcophagus that had no legible inscription left.
I would have thought it was a bit early for the kerbstones to have been removed.
Regards, John
-
Not in our County it isn't. :(
I will look again and see if I missed it.
When you go in the gate and down to the entry to the Church from the road
which area is it in relation to there.
Sandy
-
Ah found it.
Went up-stairs got out the M.I.'s so I could see where it was.
It is completely covered but I think it the one marked with an x.
Sorry I was in-correct John.
Sandy
-
Yep, that's the one, glad to know that it is still there and just needs a tidy up. :) I do have a number of Tipler and Smith headstones on my computer but did not have a picture of this one.
Regards, John
-
Wow, thanks again both of you. Second cousins, that's amazing John! Mary-Ann does sound right for my grandmother now, I hardly remember her but we visited by grandfather almost every week after she died. Eventually he went into a home in Wellingborough where he died but I do know they were both buried at Ecton close if not together and I am positive I remember where, to with in a few yards (quite close to Gerald's and another Tipler by some trees/bushes as I remeber, may have been Sarah?) but no stones. I can even remember grandfathers funeral. I contacted someone in the village last year via the Ecton website and they were able to check the records and confirm this burials but unfortunately there didn't seem to be a record of specific plots. My mother and father settled in Luton where I was born, and both are now buried there. I presume you have my sister (now leaves near Spalding) and 12 year old son on your tree! (and thanks I will PM you by the way).

Hi, I realise I am answering in quite an old post, but I do have the full Tipler Family Tree for Sarah who married Henry Hornsey Love. It is in the spreadsheet format, let me know if interested. Paul
-
To Mombasa, I note that you think that all Northampton Tiplers are probably related. I have been researching the Tipler name for well over 10 years now and currently have over 15 different Tipler Family Trees. I had over 20 at one time but have gradually been able to merge some and I continue to do so now. I would say that out of 4 Tipler Trees that currently start in Northampton that none are blood related. If youwould like more information on what Tipler details I hold I'll be happy to let you know. Paul
-
Ashley, I have sent you a private message re your Tipler family. Paul Tipler, Weston super Mare
-
Henry Edgley was my grandfather.Rose love was his second wife
-
Hi Paul.
Welcome to Rootschat. :)
I wondered if you could message me about the spreadsheet please.
Sandy
-
Hi Pauline.
Welcome to Rootschat :)
There seems to be a lot of folk related to this family..
Sandy
-
Eddie love was Roses son I think
-
I have a photo of rose Love I think
-
I have just discovered this thread by doing a google on Sarah Tipler.
Although not a Love or a Tipler, I was born in Northampton and am linked to the Loves line.
I have a photo of a family gathering of the Loves which was probably taken in the 1930s. On it is an old lady, who I wonder is Sarah Tipler.
Certainly 5 people have been identified and the picture is on Alan Clarke's website.
http://www.familyhistorynorthants.co.uk/love%20family%20northampton.htm
Also Rose Love/Edgely is mentioned. Could she be the person on the horse?
http://www.familyhistorynorthants.co.uk/love%20%20family%2001.jpg
If anyone has any knowledge of the people in the family gathering. Please email me.
-
it doesn't look like Rose to me.I can't believe she actually rode a horse.
-
Thank you for the reply about Rose. I am really clutching at straws trying to work out who the people are on the family photo. Until I passed it to Alan Clarke, I only knew one person on it.
I met her a few times in the 1960s and she was always known as Aunt Rose. I cannot really remember her other than she lived in a prefab of Eastern Avenue. She was a member of the Love family.
-
She was my step grandmother.I remember the prefab.I have a photo of her from about 1958 at a family party in Market Harborough.
-
Would it be possible to send me a copy, please?
She was my father's aunt - hence Aunt Rose. As I recall, she looked nothing like my grandmother. My grandmother was short and wide, whereas I thought Rose looked more upright.
-
I will look, out my photos tomorrow. Can Inattach it to a message.
-
oh did you know Eddie.I am never quite sure how he fits in.
-
I only knew a few members of the Love family. Eddy means nothing to me.
Rose was from a large family, 10 children, but not one of her brothers was Edward from what I can see from the census forms. There was a brother, Fred Love, but he means nothing to me. He was a year younger.
I only knew Ada who was Rose's sister.
-
I have scanned picture if anyone wants a copy .I also have Roses marriage cert to Henry edgley
-
I seem to have a photo of Henry and Rose's marriage, although it is not mine to share :(
It is not the lady on the horse.
Sandy
-
I also have an earlier one than on Alan's web site with the couple at the end
by the brick wall a good deal younger and other family members.
If only we knew who they were.
As I am no longer in touch with the person who owns the photo's I do not feel
at liberty with out their permission to share, sorry. :(
Sandy
-
Oh Sandy I would so love to see the wedding photo.Do you not think it might be OK to Share as he Was my grandad.
-
The wedding picture of Henry and Rose is also of interest to me if there are more people on it than the couple.
There might be my great grandfather, grandmother etc.
The large gathering of the Love family on Alan's site is mine, as are all of the other photos including the woman on the horse who I think may be a member of the Love family.
Like Pauline it would be nice to see the photo if it has family members on it.
-
Sorted.
-
In my book what goes around comes around. In my life I have helped with and shared a lot of genealogical information and I have transcribed census records and everyone has been helpful and sharing.
To my mind it's the right thing to do.Welcome to my world.
