The 1841 census doesn't show relationships or actual place of birth, and ages of people over 15 should be rounded down to the nearest 5 years (but maybe not in this case)
Hope this helps

Hi Len
What do you already have and what are you trying to find out?
Linda

Thankyou Linda, essentially my first post contains most of the information I have regarding the Welsh end of my family heritage, scant as it is. I intend to travel to UK in the next year or so and would like to visit the area of my family name ancestory. I'd be interested in resting place of Cornelius and Mary and if direct members of that family are still in the area. Quite interestingly I have 3 children, my (eldest) son is now a mining engineer, although my Grandfather Sydney was an Assayer (mining related), there have not been miners in our family until my son entered that field?? little did we know!!. Thankyou

Hi Len
That sounds a bit like my family. When my son was born we named him Richard. It was only years later, when I started to do my family history, that I discovered a whole string of father and son Richards. :D
Linda
PS I know there's a time difference, but is it really May in Alice Springs?? :D

Mary would look to be the second wife. Getting the marriage certificate would give you another generation

Cornelius Griffiths married Gwen Jones 16/11/1816 in Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn parish church, both of the parish. There's a submitted entry for this on the IGI, but it also appears in an index I have.
You can get a copy of the parish entry from the record office in Aberystwyth.

The records of Bethel Independent are in RG4 at the National Archives, so should be available to search for a fee here - it's easy to spend very quickly!

Thankyou to both danuslave and Osprey!! there is so much information here to digest when I consider I knew very little about this part of my family. Can you advise how I would research further back in time from Cornelius, his parents etc etc?
Linda not sure about the reference to May? I only see time on my posts? and I've double checked the date/time on my PC ? maybe gremlins (are they Welsh??)
once again I'm very grateful for your assistance on this research

From your first post :D :D

I'd start with his marriage cert to Mary from 1849 as you'd get his father's name & occupation from there.
Going back further could be a problem. The IGI for the Llanbadarn fawr starts in 1815. Copies of the earlier registers are at the National Library in Aberystwyth and the record office, but if the family were already non-conformist, you'll need to identify which denomination and if the records exist. The size of the parish doesn't help - decidedly fawr!

I don't think the LDS has filmed the earlier parish records.
The record office will do an amount of research for you. The National Library doesn't, but they have a list of people who do

Another angle would be his army records - he's enumerated as a Chelsea pensioner in 1851. Records are at the National Archives in Kew

Hi Lengrif,
I know it is a long time since the last posting on this one Len but I have members of your family in my tree and thought you might be interested.

James Cornelious married Anne Jane Barson b 1869 Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, Wales. They married in Gympie Queensland 2 Aug 1889 (this is where Anne Jane's family settled in Australia) her sister Mary was my greatgrandmother.

Hi Lengrif
Have read your messages about looking for Griffiths family. I am granddaughter of Ivan Edward Griffiths, younger brother of your father. Would like to be in contact with you. I have been to Talybont and Felin Fach where Cornelius and Gwen lived and am in contact with other members of the family. Look forward to your reply.
-
Hi Leo,
I manage my husband's family tree and you share a common ancestor in Cornelius Griffiths.
Your great grandfather Thomas born 1842 had a brother John born 1854. John was my husband's 2 x great grandfather.
I would love to swap notes if you are interested.
Regards,
Lyn Griffiths

Hi Lyn,
I was very surprised to see your post, as it has been quite some time since I was working on my Griffiths line. But I have a lot of information on the family on nearly all lines and have traced back a little further from Cornelius. Would love to swap info.

Also, are you related to George and June Burton who I believe are also on that line of the family?
