Title: Sowhil - Pontypool?
Post by: chepstowgirl on Monday 31 August 09 10:44 BST (UK)
does anyone out there know where the Sowhil area of Pontypool or Trevethin or Penygarn is?

I have relatives that lived and died there during the 1800's but I cannot find it on any map.

I found it - thank you so much.

For info, in case anyone else every looks at this, Sowhill is now the area known as Tranch, on the opposite side of the main A4043 from Pontypool, Penygarn and Trevethin.

The Sowhill - "Sowull" is the High Street area leading from Pontypool Town up towards The Tranch.
Name comes from the Pigs of Iron that was transported up over the steep hill to the forges.
