My great grandfather was called Daniel Dowling, when he married my great grandmother Annie McLaurence in 1897 the marriage certificate gives his usual residence of Ferrybank.
Now I know he was born about 1876, but I can't find any birth reference for him in the general index under Waterford.
Does anyone know if all of Ferrybank comes under the registration district of Waterford or could some of it come under Wexford?
I believe this Dowling family were a Stevedores in the Waterford area.
His father was called Thomas Dowling and was a fitter (presumably of ships). But I need Daniel's birth certificate to try and establish who his mother was.
thanks

It looks to me from the registration district map that Ferrybank on the north side of the Suir would still be in Waterford registration district. Looking at modern maps I think Ferrybank would actually be in Co. Kilkenny but the Waterford registration district covers most of East co. Waterford plus a large section of Co. Kilkenny.
see the map at : http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/RegistrarDistrictsMap.jpg

Hi, Daniel and Annie were my great-great grandparents! I have a lot of information on this family, and I believe I also have a copy of Daniel's birth certificate if you haven't found it yet? If you'd like any more information, please get in contact!

Yeah, Daniel was born on 26 July 1876 to Thomas Dowling and Catherine Hammond.
Other children from this marriage are John (b. 8 February 1869), Henry (b. 2 February 1871), Ellen (b. 18 June 1873), Catherine (b. 1878 - I can't seem to find her) and Mary (b. 10 February 1880).

Hi, I believe my Nan is part of the same family. Kathleen Fitzpatrick from waterford. Daniel and Annie are her grandparents. We have been trying to find more about her family as she was adopted and was part of 13 children which all got adopted. I would really like to get In touch :)

thank's everyone for all the replies on here, it is so good to connect with some other ancestors from this side.
I have done quite a bit of research now on the dowling side. Catherine Hammond mother of Daniel I believe is a descendant of the Henry Hammond of the Irish Rebellion 1798. Very interesting!!!
