Hello everyone,
Wondered if you could help with a couple of dates please. My grandmothers nephew emigrated to Melbourne around 1920. He was born 1901 to William & Mary Louisa Tee in Skirlaugh East Yorkshire England. Looking for marriage to Blanche and death dates for both. Think John maybe died 70s 80s.
I have anewspaper cutting from 1950 when they visited England for 6months and there was a family reunion.
Also, in the article it says his grandmother sailed to Australia. As I can't find death in uk for his grandmother- Mary Jane Tee born 1855, I actually wondered if by any chance theres any trace of her death in Australia. Sorry if I'm asking too much.
Regards Marlene

Arriving at Southampton from Melbourne on 29th June 1950 on the TSS Esperance Bay were Mr J and Mrs B TEE and Miss A VICKERMANN whose address in UK was 50 Cross Flats Crescent, Beeston, Leeds.

Hi All,
Well, that was absolutely amazing to get all that information and I'm so grateful to you all. The dates fitted in with six month stay they had in uk as per newspaper article. Will be looking into Vickerman as John married a Vickerman as well as being from a Vickerman. Think maybe now the grandmother mentioned was probably Grandma Vickerman as it was the Vickermans who did a mass exodus. John Tee was following his Vickerman uncles Jack and Wilf.
So it looks like John Tee died in Germany.
My many thanks to Cando, Jenn, Kris. You're brilliant!
Regards Marlene.
-
Hi Marleen
John TEE died in Heidelberg a suburb of Melbourne, capital city of the State of Victoria. He was cremated at Springvale Crematorium and I have given you the location of his grave on reply#8.
The information on a death certificate is only as good as the knowledge of the informant so I think you would need to research John parentage. Do you have John's birth certificate?
Pleased we were helpful.
Cheers

Hi Cando,
Now I do feel silly!!! I did look Heidelberg up in the Atlas and I came up with Germany! Thought he had maybe been on travels!! Glad I mentioned it though and you kindly put me right.
They are the parents of John Tee and it does look like he married a cousin. My grandma was a Tee and sister to William, Johns dad. Will be researching more on Vickermans. I have photos of John, Blanche & Addie when they came in the 50s and it's so good to have all those details on them now.
Many thanks again

Hello Billy,
Unfotunately I don't have an address, all I knew was that they lived in Melbourne. However I would like to take you up on your offer of photograph at cemetery but only in your own good time, like when you're in the area and have the spare time. Taking in account John TEE was a returned soldier, it is possible that the place of death was the Repatriation Hospital at Heidelberg. His usual place of residence would be noted on his death certificate.

Hi Jenn,
Thanks for the extra info on the Vickermans, those names were mentioned in newpaper article too. Its so good of you all to help. Much appreciated.

Hi Cando,
I'm not sure on that but possibility. Do you mind if ask if there was an address on the death certificate for Blanche.
Regards.
-
The death indexes in Victoria only extend to 1985 so can't help you with any other information other than her cremation record at Springvale. It may be worth contacting the funeral directors noted on her record at Springvale. Unfortunately the Privacy Act in Australia may prevent them giving any further information other than that which is the public domain.

Search both VICKERMAN and VICKERMANN -

Hi marleen'
Not sure how much you have on Wilfred Vickerman, but thought I would mention to you thay his ww1record is available for reading
John Tee was following his Vickerman uncles Jack and Wilf.
I see other chatters have given ou some other details about him.
He was, according tothis record, a Methodist Missionary and that fact in itself may make interesting researching.
There are some letters regarding him including one from a Magaret Hummerton of Carlton.

Hi,
David VICKERMAN was buried at WESBURN CEMETERY.
Aged 65.
On 24/10/1949.
Wesburn is about 4 or 5 kilometers south east of Warburton in Vic.
My source suggests there may be more information available on the original transcription. I can advise you of how to do this if you wish.
Sue
-
The burial is also noted on the Upper Yarra Valley Cemetery Register
VICKERMAN David 24 Oct 1949
No further comment is noted.
The limit of the indexes, births 1920, marriages 1942 and deaths 1985 will certainly inhibit our search for the brothers and their families.
I have searched on the Wills index and there are two Wills but they are too early to relate to this family, unless there was a connection in the early 19thC in England.

I think Sue is referring to death notices published in the newspapers and the notice may help with the names of grandchildren...perhaps. :-\

It was six years later in 1926 that MURIEL MAUD VICKERMAN arrived.

On the same voyage were

With both David's dau Marion and James' dau Muriel being born at Skirlaugh, one cannot help wondering whether they were related.

Well, Marleen in reply #21 tells us that James and David were brothers and it lookslike they all decided on a new life.

Delighted to see this information. :)
Marion May Vickerman was my Grandmother, she emigrated to Australia from England with her father David Vickerman and her two sisters, Aunty Joyce and Aunty Francis. Her husband was known as George Thomas Barber. Curious that he was listed here as Tgeo?
-
Hi there, good to here from you. Hope you read it all and all made sense. Are you ok with where I fit in, any questions please ask. Don't know why your George Thomas shown as Tgeo, maybe typing error.
About 18months ago I heard from a daughter of Murial Maud Adams (nee Vickerman). Murial is a daughter of James Vickerman & Sarah Skelton.
I live Hull East Yorkshire uk.

Thanks Marleen, I accidently stumbled on the site after "googling" my Nan's name, don't really know how it works at this stage. Don't know where the other Vickermans fit in, was James David's brother? I am in Brisbane Australia. Grew up near Worri Yallock, Victoria, Australia.
-
Hi Galon, after you have made another reply, we will be able to send a private message. Maybe you would like me to contact Muriels daughter for you. I do believe James & David brothers, other siblings too. Maybe you don't want to go any further with it, if so, no offence.

Hi Galon,

Hi, I have just discovered this threat and found it a bit odd to be reading about my family. My mother was a Vickerman and Ann Vickerman was my gt grandmother, my grandfather was her only child who didn't go to Australia.

Sorry, only saw your message today. Nice to hear from you, my grandmother was Alice Tee brother to William Tee who married Mary Louisa Vickerman., parents of John Tee who was known as Jack Tee in UK.

Hi Marleen
Thanks for getting back to me. My grandfather was George Henry Vickerman and my mother was Dorothy Mildred Vickerman. As I said before, all of the other Vickerman siblings and mother gradually went to Australia. Are you in the U.K.?
