Who does this contain information about?
-
Hi, well it's the Scottish equivalent of "Who's Who". It was the first publication of its kind in Scotland & there was a copyright problem. The title of this book was going to be "Who's Who in Scotland". As expected with a book like this, the entries mainly refer to the well off members of society. Having said that, there's plenty of ministers mentioned,as the Editor of the "Fasti" of the Church of Scotland,1915-1928 advised & helped with the production .
I'll gladly do lookups of anyone who was still alive in 1938!

Hi,
Are there any references to any Farquhars living in Lossiemouth, Moray?
Thanks
-
Hi,and welcome to rootschat!
I've had a look and there's only 2 Farquhars,neither in Lossiemouth.They are;
FARQUHAR,Arthur Murray (Adml.Sir),K.C.B.,C.V.O. of Acheron,Aboyne and
FARQUHAR,Rowland Chapel,6 Hill Place,Arbroath,Angus.
Can you give us more details on your Lossiemouth Farquhars? I'm sure someone on rootschat will be able to help.

Thank you so much for replying.
I would like to locate any of their children. I believe that they had a son, also named James Farquhar (possible middle A). He married a Gladys Barber in Gravesend, Kent, England around 1937. They had a son, also named James Farquhar. I believed that they divorced and she came to Canada around 1947, on the Aquatania with her son.
I do know that James and Gladys lived in Lossiemouth during their marriage. No one seems to know whatever happened to James Farquhar (whom married Gladys). I will see if I can find any other information.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

I do know there was one Rev. John Elder in our family, but he was a minister in Glasgow, in 1884, and performed the marriage of one of his cousins, (my grandfather's uncle).
I'm not sure if the one you found is one of mine, but it may be worth checking.
Thank you.

Thank you for the welcome,
Its possible it is a relation, im clutching at straws really! My grandmother was born in Londonderry, Ireland 1919 (Mary Josephine Murphy or O'Donnell) and i know she came over to Scotland sometime in the 30's and stayed with an Auntie who run a hotel/cafe.
I believe the Aunt could be a Rose Doherty (nee McNerlin) wife of John Joseph Doherty.
Thank you for your help
