This Thomas MacGillivray lived at "Alnaha" a farmhouse near Cawdor,he was married to Margaret Noble and they had nine children living.
I wish to know all their names, as well as the ones I do know i.e.my Grandmother Margaret, Aunts Anne and Mary,Isabella (Bella?)
More importantly I would like to know of any brothers and sisters Thomas Macgillivray may have had and who his parents were and any other information.
Thank you so much for your interest

You need to give us a lot more information so we know exactly which family you are researching and don't go down the wrong track
Where and when was Thomas born - although he may have lived in Cawdor - was he actually born there or elsewhere
When and where was Margaret born?
Is this who you are researching - this is the type of info should be included in any lookup request??
THOMAS MCGILLIVRAY Spouse: MARGARET NOBLE
Marriage: 17 FEB 1859 Daviot And Dunlichity Inverness,
You will note they married in Inverness
The IGI shows a son Alexander b 25 NOV 1868 Moy And Dalarossie, Inverness - you can view the entry at www.familysesarch.org
The same website also has Ann b 04 DEC 1873 Cawdor and Margaret 06 FEB 1871 Cawdor

My grandmother, Jessie McGillivray, was the elder sister of your grandmother, Margaret McGillivray who married John Wilson. I know a lot about the McGillivrays if you are still interested.

Fortune hasn't been online since February so has probably not seen your post. You need 3 posts to use PM (Personal Message) system but I'll send a PM directing to this thread for you. Best wishes, aghadowey (Moderator)
P.S. I've just sent PM but if they've changed their address and not updated their Rootschat profile details they may not get my message.

I would very much like to hear from Fortune about the McGillivray family.

Fortune still hasn't been online (since Feb.2011) so probably hasn't seen the latest posts on this thread.
-
Annie McGillivray was my Grandmother.
I am making the same research as you. I don,t have much on the McGillivray side but do have quite a bit on my side.

Hi IainP

Hi and thanks.
Thomas McGillivray was my great Grandfather, and Hannah Sim(e) my great Grandmother.
The family as I have researched is as described by Carole W (but William was actually 22 at the time of the census). So I think we maybe on cross wires?
Best wishes

Do you have any information on William Macgillivray who I understand is the father of Thomas? Many thanks for any info (Jane McG, descended from another Cawdor McG family)
-
Hi. At the moment I have only got as far as Thomas (My Great Grandfather) b. ca. 1855. He had a son called William who was born in Simpson Street, Nairn on 18.10.1878. I have not found out any more about him yet either.
Sorry this is not much but I hope it helps.

Look at Roy's online register
which will help as it gives William and Mary Fraser as parents. You will find several siblings too.
Thos + Margt Noble 17 Feb 1859; Daviot 3 SO Wm + Mary Fraser, but not found in 1841 census

Hi. There were several Mcgillivray families living in Nairnshire at the time. My grandmother's sister, Margaret Mcgillivray, was born in Cawdor in 1871, married John Fortune Wilson in Nairn in 1900, and had 3 children: John Fortune Wilson in Glasgow in 1900; Margaret Mary Mcgillivray Fortune Wilson in Nairn in 1902; and Euphemia Fortune Wilaon in Musselburgh in 1905. Is this your family?

I am looking for information on James Macgillivray born 1915 in Nairnshire. His parents were Thomas Macgillivray and Jessie Fossett. Does anyone have info on Jessie because I have drawn a blank there.

Hello fearliathmor,
I have just come upon this thread by accident when researching the MacGillivrays and realised that this post was from my mother! She had been starting out with her family tree research but soon gave up due to ill health so I don't think she ever saw your replies. Unfortunately my mum passed away two years ago but I have been trying to work on the family tree and would love to find out more about the MacGillivrays. My Great Great Grandfather was Thomas McGillivray (Shepherd) who married Margaret Noble in The Free Church Manse in Daviot in 1859. I believe they had 9 children from census records and my Great Grandmother was their daughter Margaret. She married John Wilson in January 1900. It sounds like Margaret and your Grandmother were sisters? I would love to find out more and hope you see this reply. My mother would have loved to have made contact with you.
Kind regards,
Fortune Daughter

Well, this is my first visit, and I'm fascinated. IainP, Thomas Mac G and Hannah Sim are my great grandparents too! I think as you say the age for William WAS 22. I am James's grand daughter. Which of them are you through? Unfortunately I only ever met maiden great aunt Hannah as a child.
