Title: McCullochs- help needed
Post by: aghadowey on Saturday 19 September 09 20:10 BST (UK)
Started with the following information-
Harry Francis McCulloch (or McCullough, etc.), son of Francis McCulloch, (born c1841 died 16 Dec.1916), married (14 Sept.1864 Errigal Parish Church, Garvagh) Charlotte Cash (born c1847?).
1.   Letitia Margaret McCullough (12 Aug.1865 Garvagh dist.).
2.   Caroline McCullough (10 May 1867 Garvagh dist.).
3.   Ethel McCullough (20 Nov.1873 Belfast dist.).

Going by Harry's date of death in 1916 and Ethel's birth in 1873 Belfast I searched 1911 census for the family and there's this one-

King's Rd. (Pottinger DED), [Belfast] Down
Henry McCulloch, 66, stationer mfg born Belfast City [name and age fit but birthplace wrong and McCullochs were Church of Ireland]
wife Charlotte, 60, m.37 yrs 8 ch/6 liv., born Belfast City [name and age fit but birthplace wrong and marriage date 10 years too late]
relative Mary Kane, 6, wid., born Co.Antrim
son James McCulloch, 5, paper merchant, born Belfast City
son Edmund McCulloch, 27, book-keeper, born Belfast City
son William McCulloch, 25, stationer mfg., Belfast City

Haven't yet found if the 3 daughters I do know about were still alive in 1911.

Seems unlikely that there were 2 Henry/Harry McCullochs with wife named Charlotte.

Grateful for any help to sort out this branch.

In case it helps, the Cash surname appears to be more Co Antrim than Co. Londonderry see http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
however there is a lonely
MCCULLOUGH  WILLIAM  LONDONDERRY  FAUGHANVALE
Then there is http://www.torrens.org.uk/Genealogy/BannValley/church/GarvaghCOI/ but you know this etc
So sorry cant help more

Thanks for taking a look. The marriage of Harry McCulloch and Charlotte Cash gives her as schoolmistress, dau. of Joseph Cash scripture reader, living at Farrintemple Glebe (same townland as McCullochs) but she could have come into that area as a teacher.

That's fantastic, Mary. The 1871 birth is another child for the family I'm searching for.
From Ethel's marriage record (another gem) I found Thomas and Ethel Neill in 1911 census living Laganvale St. with 2 children Henry Francis and Margaret (both born ENGLAND!).

Added: Just checking a bit further and Ethel Neill is born c1884 (should be 1873).

Have tonight sorted out a few more details thanks to new LDS site, Belfast City Cemetery records, etc.

Henry Francis McCullough/McCullagh/McCullogh married 1st (1864) Charlotte Cash (d.1875 Belfast) and had- Letitia Margaret (1865), Caroline (1867), Charlotte (1869), Henry Francis (1871) and Ethel (1873). He then married Mary ? and had at least 6 more children.

I too have a McCulloch in my tree, but rather earlier.

John Shaw McCulloch (or McCullogh) seems to have been a lieutenant in the 47th Regiment at the time of his marriage to Ann Harrison in Ballymena on 8 July 1807.  He was later a captain in the 32nd Regiment.

Ann died of cholera in Drogheda in 1832, and their two daughters were married there the following year.  John then remarried.  I have not found either birth or death for him: can anyone help?

What a nice surprise to see your latest message. I do have more on the McCulloughs since we were last in touch but have limited computer time at the moment. Will dig out my files then send you a message.

Nothing to do with the McCulloughs on this thread. Rather than cluttering up this one with requests you'll need to start a new one on the appropriate board (Ireland-General if it covers more than one county) so there will be a better chance of people seeing what you are looking for and helping with information or advice.

We’ll just to let you know I eventually found where Letitia, Caroline and Charlotte resided….Letitia Margaret McCullough went to America dropped her first name and she seemed to be known as Madge…I found her through her death records when I searched her father and mothers name…she married a guy surname Row…. Caroline stayed in Ireland her husbands surname was McClune from Newtownards Co Down she lived in both Bangor and Newtownards and had a number of children…..Charlotte went to America Married a guy called Stoupe …He was also from Newtownards Co Down …they travelled back to Ireland with a couple of children and after having a few more children …they emigrated to New Zealand….

Since this thread was started I also had found the McClune family. I've now found Charlotte's gfamily in America & N.Z. (very sad story about one of the daughters) but Letitia Margaret/Madge stilleludes me so I'd be curious as to where in America you found her.

Sorry should have said Canada…I had great difficult finding her Letitia became Lillian and Margaret became Madge and I eventually found it on her death record under her mothers name Charlotte Cash….whom she said was born in France…?

Madge died on 30th August 1946 In Fortwilliam, Thunder Bay,Canada, her husband was Albert Row he was born in England 01 Jan 1869 and died in Ontario Canada they had 2 children Hazel and Albert…

The McClune family do you know what happened to them I wondered were they buried in Movilla Cemetery in Newtownards with the rest of the family.

Thanks for details about Letitia Margaret- was able to find her family now.

Caroline & John McClune buried New Cemetery in Bangor. Eldest child Charlotte died while they still lived in Newtownards so she might be buried at Movilla. Son George Purdy McClune buried New Cemetery, Bangor (with Coulters not his family). Not sure about the others.
