Title: The family of Alexander Grant and Janet Jamieson
Post by: Canterburynorth on Sunday 20 September 09 22:57 BST (UK)
Hello All,

I am looking for any information on the family of my G G Grandmother Mary Jessie Grant or Kidd.

Her Parents were Alexander GRANT and Janet JAMIESON or GRANT.

Mary  Jessie was born around 1862 she married William Russell Kidd in 1882, they were married at Auchintae Croft,  I think perhaps this could be the home of her parents.

I am hoping to find out if Mary Jessie had brothers and sisters.

Mary Jessie lived in Keith after her marrige, but I dont know where she was from,  most likely in the same area?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards

Leandra :)

Hello flst,

Thank you very much for providing me that link, indeed it was a big help :)

I also noticed you have the name Pyper in you interests.  I also have come across that name in New Zealand with another family I am looking at,  do your Pypers have a NZ connection?

Kind regards

Leandra

Glad I could help! I've very little information on the Pypers.  My gt.gt.gt.gt.grandmother was Christian Pyper.  She married John Scott on 20/12/1794.  They had 2 children John,& Elizabeth. Christian died 5/1/1804 aged 36 & is buried in Peathill Kirkyard (Old Pitsligo),Aberdeenshire.  She is the only Pyper there that I know of.  Do you think your Pypers are from Aberdeenshire? There are a few other families with that surname here.

Hi again,

I hav'nt got far with my Pypers as yet,  I have been doing my Ford family and my lady Sarah Ann  died in 1915  miles from her family and is buried in a plot with this Pyper family.  This is in the bottom of the South Island of NZ which was settled mainly by Scots. If I get to the bottom of the mystery and find where my Pypers come from I will let you know. ;)

Hi, I am new to this site so still trying to figure how work it. Please could you message me? Christian Pyper is my great (x5) grandmother, no medals for guessing who is my great (x5) grandfather is. I'm hoping we can work together on our Scott family research.

Mary  Jessie was born around 1862 she married William Russell Kidd in 1882, they were married at Auchintae Croft,  I think perhaps this could be the home of her parents. I am hoping to find out if Mary Jessie had brothers and sisters. Mary Jessie lived in Keith after her marriage, but I dont know where she was from.

Three of the eleven children of William Russell Kidd and Mary Jessie Grant appear in my family tree. I have a list of all 11 if you want it.

George Alexander Kidd was the father of an illegitimate child born to Jane Ross Burgess in Edinburgh in 1904. This child, John Burgess, died in 1925, and there are no known descendants.

Williamina Kidd had an illegitimate child, David Stuart Kidd, in 1909, the father being David Stuart, lorryman, Royal Hotel, Nairn.

Jean Kidd married Robert Chapman in 1920. They had one son that I know of, in 1924.

Alexander and Janet had eight children that I know of: William 1848; George 1850/1; Margaret 1852/3; James 1853/4; Jane 1856; Ann 1859; Mary Jessie 1862; Robert 1865, all born in Rathven. in 1861 they were all at Auchintae except William, who was a servant at Mains of Findochty, and of course the two youngest were yet to be born.

William Russell Kidd died in 1900, and his widow Mary Jessie Grant or Kidd had a son James in 1903, father unknown to me.
