Title: Franklin Family - Bisley / Chalford Hill
Post by: DRB70 on Saturday 26 September 09 22:28 BST (UK)
Hello

I am Canadian now residing in the UK.  I am rearching my family name of Franklin.  An early predecessor was Charles Franklin (c1783-1873) who moved from Bisley to Chalford Hill.  He was married to Martha Davis (c1784-1870).  They had  4 children Joshua (1815-1901), who moved to Canada c1850 and died there.   Abraham (c1820-1900), Joel (c1824-?), and Tenana (c1826-?)

Joshua is my grandfather 4x removed.  He was married to Harriett Russell (c1817-1843).  They had 3 children.  A son James (c1836-1941) who is my granfather 3x removed), and who moved to Canada at some point.  Jacob Franklin (c1840-1840), and Martha (c1841-1843).

James married a Jane Bartlett (c1837-1905). They had one son, James (c1860-1941) my granfather 2x removed..  He was taken to Canada.  He married a Mary Bartlett (c1858-1925).  They had they're children in Canada.  All Franklin down the line from these 2, were all born in Canada.

I am wondering is this line of Franklin is familar to anyone?

Welcome to the best place there is and as you will see below, I have Franklins in Bisley and masses of records.

When you've posted a few times you'll be able to contact me by P.M.  I'm sure I could help you,  but to get on with have a look at a Bisley batch C035432 at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyGloucester_(A-M).htm#B  for some idea of the task ahead :D  Ho-Ho :D

Hello Chas.

thanks for the reply.

I cannot download the records.  I am taken to a Windows File Association site.  My wife downloaded the gedcom and al it did was place her searched parties onto a tree, which is not really what I want as I have a tree already.  I would like to look at documents - copies of originals if possible.

What can you suggest?

cheers
steve

Steve,

Try Googling for "Hugh Wallis genealogy" and choose  "Counties in England" which should give you the place to search batches of data extracted from church records.  Bear in mind that Chalford Hill is in the parish of Bisley.  I always search LDS films but only after searching the IGI via Hugh Wallis site or if nothing found, the IGI at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true  giving LDS members' submissions which might be fairy tales in some respect.  I have two films on hire at the moment.

If you want to search actual records you'll either need to visit the Records Office holding them (Gloster for instance) or hire and search a film of the records at an LDS FHC - £7.50 for three month hire.  See the LDS library catalogue for details of the millions of LDS films of records.

Regards

Chas

Steve,

Did you happen to use the Ancestry search box at the top of the page?

If so, that's your problem, use the one lower down!

Abraham Franklin is my third great-grandfather. He was born in Bisley, Gloucestershire, England in 1820 and had a residence in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England in 1851. His grand-daughter (my great-grandmother) was born in Paddington, London, England, moved to the US, and ended up in California. I'm not sure what year it was when she came to the United States but, she married my great-grandfather in California in 1924. Most of her descendants still live in California.  ;) I have no information about Abraham's ancestors because I have not renewed my Ancestry.com account for awhile. I'm not sure if you will see this post but, I signed up to be notified if someone responds to this message.  :)
