My gggrandfather was Peter Truan/Truen/Truran b: approx. 1800 (1806 in 1841 census) in Gerrans/St. Just d: December 30, 1875 in Church Town, Gerrans. He married Thomasin Whetter and Eliza Peters.
The spelling of his surname varies in census, BMD and Veryan records, and also includes TROWAN.
Can anyone help me find who his parents were? The only possibility I have found is from the Veryan parish records where it shows his father as Peter Truen b: 1790 but the birth date obviously can't be correct.
Children of Peter Truen and Thomasin Whetter:
Elizabeth Ann Truan bp: January 26, 1836 Gerrans
Children of Peter Truen and Eliza Peters:
John Thomas (Trowan) Truen b: February 19, 1838 Veryan d: 1917
Peter Henry (Trowan) Truen b: March 5, 1841 Veryan
George Frederick (Trowan) Truen b: September 13, 1842 Gerrans. He was a mariner (farmer? In 1861 census). Married Eliza Rowe (nee Robins) January 18, 1874 St. Just in Roseland. Children George Henry Truran b: January 21, 1875 Gerrans (born blind) and Roselina Helena Truran b: March 24, 1878 Gerrans.
Harriet Ann (Trowan) Truran b: 1844 Gerrans
Maria Jane (Trowan) Truan (Mary T in 1861 census) b: 1846 Gerrans
Joseph Alfred Truan b: 1849 Gerrans d: August 4 1851 Gerrans
Elizabeth Truan b: 1856 Gerrans

You are related to my family through Peter Truan's 2nd marriage.
Just looked through your old posts and I see that I have been in contact with you before.
-
On the Veryan site it has Peter (Trowan) Truen born 1815 married Eliza Peters in 1838,therefore his father could be Peter Truen born 1790.
I think that it is baptisms not birth that are on the Veryan site because I have the birth certificate of John Thomas Trowan,as it spelt, and he was was born on the 7th Feb 1838.
Eventually it became Truan.

Thanks very much for your help.
The 1815 year of birth for Peter (Trowan) Truen on the Veryan site is different from everywhere else so I don't think it can be correct, and therefore don't think listing his father as Peter Truen b:1790 is correct either. I've been searching for years on and off and am completely stuck I'm afraid. I was hoping someone else would have researched the same tree and had more joy than me.

I am related through John Thomas Truan all spellings and I also think that I have been in contact with you in the past and gave you that information about John Thomas Truan's line.
-
I have a marriage certificate of Peter and Eliza Truen (note spelling) and it states that the father of Peter is Peter and his occupation was husbandman.
-
I contacted David Trounce OPC for Veryan and he told me that the infomation on his site contains all the info he has gathered from the Veryan Parish records of births and marriages plus the Census results and that the spelling of Truan varies.
I don't know if you have been to his site but here it is:

Thanks once again, I really appreciate your help.
I too contacted David some time ago, the excellent Veryan site has the only reference I have been able to find for Peter (Trowan) Truen b: 1790. The site has his son Peter as being born in 1815 but this is different to census data (1800 in 1851/1861/1871 and 1806 in 1841 census).
-
I agree that the dates given for Peter in the various census' are at odds with his baptism date and who was his mother?
I haven't been able to find a marriage for Peter the father of Peter in the Phillimore marriage records in that area .
May be someone else can shed some light on Peter the elder.

Children of Peter Truen and Eliza Peters:
John Thomas (Trowan) Truen b: February 19, 1838 Veryan d: 1917
Peter Henry (Trowan) Truen b: March 5, 1841 Veryan
George Frederick (Trowan) Truen b: September 13, 1842 Gerrans
Using many spellings of the surname I have been unable to find him anywhere. As far as I can see he doesn't appear in freebmd death or marriage in Cornwall.Thinking that he may have emigrated I looked at Ellis Island and Castle Garden but he isn't there.
George Frederick (1842) his brother emigrated to Ohio in 1900.
Any ideas of what to do next will be much appreciated or will I have to accept the fact that he may be one of those never to be found?
