I have been trying to locate the birth registration of my great grandfather Henry Herbert FISHER. I have looked on the NSW online index and he is not registered.
Henry was born in Mudgee, New South Wales in about 1870 and his parents are Charles FISHER and Emily O'NEILL.
On Henry's marriage certificate he was married to Nellie Whittaker in Cloncurry, Queensland in 1892 and he was 22 years and his occupation was Miner. According to family history Henry also was boxer and he fought under the name of "Henry MATTHEWS"
According to the electoral rolls Henry and Nellie moved to Brisbane for a couple of years and then they appeared in Boulder City Western Australia where my grandfather was born in 1908. According to family history he owned a shop or general store and it was called FISHER'S store.
In the 1922 electoral rolls Henry and Nellie lived in Northern Territory and had property or worked the property at 21/2 mile creek. I know that Nellie started up a boarding house in Mataranka after Henry died. This information has been mentioned in a book.
Many thanks

Hi Sandy,
Welcome to Rootchat... Lots of friendly people here, all interested in family history searchings.
On the Electoral Roll for 1870 there's the following entry for Mudgee:
William FISHER, residence at Burrundulla.
I haven't spotted Charles Fisher yet, but I'm looking....
Cheers, JM

Hello there Sandy and welcome to Rootschat,
Thanks for giving us such a detailed account of Henry's background.
I searched the NSW BDM site using a few wildcards and really came up with nothing.
No other children born to that couple or any leads, it is possible of course that his birth may never have been registered.
I shall look interstate to see if anything may give us a lead.

Christlieb FISHER, residing at Louee, (freehold at Old Louee)
Still looking :D

Bit More,
1872 Greville's Directory has Christleib FISHER as a farmer at Louee Rylstone...
I'm still looking for Henry's family in and around Mudgee-Rylstone district in the 1870's.....

A strong possility that is true but not a proven sister for Henry, or even correct parents
I tried using Fischer and Fisher to no avail. I cannot see a likely marriage at all either.
If Charles Fisher was say Carl Fischer his wifes name may also be bastardised in some way. Drawing from my own experience ( which can be boring for others) My gggparents married in Queensland and the certificate says the mothers name was Marion Hetzler but in fact it was Marion Edsall. So we do so often come across misstransprictions of names due to accents of the person saying the name to the register or the person giving the name not having correct knowledge of the spelling of the actual name.

Hi there,
Sandy, Jenn's making a very good point... I have many "translated" errors in my NSW forebears.... I will amend that post to read a POSSIBLE sister for Henry....
Sorry,
JM

There are a number of births on the indexes to a couple named
Charles Benedict FISCHER and Emily Caroline FISCHER.
I am not at all persuaded that they are relevant. Births in Sydney
Using the original spelling, here is the probable death of the probably correct CHARLES in Mudgee
In 1900 .FISHER, CHARLES. father's name -POWELL at MUDGEE reg.2455

Bit More,
Still not found Henry's birth in NSW in abt 1870 in or around Mudgee or Rylstone....
Hi Jenn, in my Kentish forebears I've got "Harrison" transcribed as "Dorrisen" - twas only sorted out for me by a good RChatter ....
Cheers, JM
-
Bit More,
A transcription of the 1871 NSW birth of Mary E Ficher would indicate if she had older siblings, and would give further genie info on her parents too....
Cheers,

Bit More,
I've had a good read of the NSW Govt Gaz for three pages from Aug 20, 1859 (petition of Mudgee residents re propective municipality local government status)..... Not found any likely surnames....
Still looking.

This may be worth noting from Free bmd
Birth June 1/4 1870 at Lexden
FISHER, Henry Herbert
Vol 4a, pg.336
It would not be the first time that someone believed they were born in one place, but it was actually in another ;D
Sue

I will check the 1871 census for him, now to find where Lexden is ;D

Hi Sue,
You could be right, maybe he thought or told he was born in Mudgee but he actually wasn't born in Australia. The little boy that was born and died in WA was definitely my grandfather's brother.
Many thanks for this. Also thankyou to JM and Jenn for looking as well.

Bit More,
This could be a red herring, but 4th Qtr 1867 marriage at Halstead Essex, Charles John FISHER vol 4a pg 679 - marriage either to EMILY Frances Sefton or to Jessie Way..... I've not YET found a marriage for Charles Fisher to Emily O'Neill

Hi,
I have a Charles Henry FISHER born Broken hill NSW.
Carrier Alberton South Australia
died
June 29th 1904
His father Was THOMAS FISHER.
My GG-Grandmother was Mary Ann / MARION MATILDA TONKES nee FISHER.
Why I wrote 2 names for Marion, is that I have been to local Gene office and seen both names used. I have certificates showing only Marion Matilda used.
CHARLES FISHER was her brother.
Can anyone help me find anything at all about this family?
I know Marion was born Port Adelaide. She lived in King street Alberton, South Australia.
Cheers
