Hello
Please see my last post, more information - and still cannot find them
I have a marriage in 1915 in the Parish of Talgarth, Brecon of
Henry FEAST aged 21 labourer residing Blaenycwn? Talgarth father Richard FEAST labourer
and
Susan Mary STOKES aged 19 residing Talgarth father Edward Stephen Stokes Ganger
Witnesses were Stephen Stokes and Emma Stokes.
I am having great difficulty locating either of these people or their fathers.
There are two trees on A***srty that have Henry marrying Susan but don't have Susan's father, and both say Henry's father is RICHMOND FEAST. Richmond would fit, there are still Feast relatives living in the Hampshire area where Richmond comes from and he is on a census with a Henry that fits. Could it have been written down wrong?
The only Susan Mary Stokes I can see that fits is born Rugby area, but I cannot find her on 1901 census.
Any help would really be appreciated please.
Thanks
Joan

HI Treelover
I see what you mean- I can't locate either of these families in 1911 or 1901.
Very odd >:(
I will keep looking though ;D

Hi Carol
I'm really going round in circles with them. I have been trying to check the 1911 myself, but not spending credits as yet. Just trying to find people that would match first but I'm really struggling.
Really hope I don't fall at the first hurdle with them :'(

Have you got a copy of the original marriage register or a typed or handwritten copy? If it is the latter I can believe that they may have misread Richmond and put Richard. I should contact the original local register office and ask them to look at their copy. They should do that free as you have already got the certificate so can give them full details of when and where.
When did this couple die? Does their age then match the marriage ages?

In 1911 there is a Harry Feast aged 18 in Newport, Monmouthshire. He shows up if you put Fareham in the birthplace box.
-
Hi Andrea
No its not the original. This is a tree I'm trying to do for a friend. I wondered about Richard/Richmond because on my tree I have a certificate just like this one where they had the bride's father's name totally wrong - I mean totally. I was stuck for over a year, then I made contact with a 3rd cousin who had a copy of the original with the correct name on. To this day I haven't a clue how they made such a big mistake??
Henry's birth
As its not my tree, all I know about them is they had a son G born in 1923 in Swansea.
If we say Richmond is correct, which I think he is.
Henry on 1901 census states he is born 1891
Henry on 1911 census says he is born 1899 Not actually downloaded image, just sure its right one still living with Richmond at home)
If we go off the marriage certificate he would be born 1897 ::)
-
In 1901 there's a 10 year old Harry Feast with a dad Richmond,he's a railway labourer. He has a 21 year old sister with the wonderful name of Orange ;D
Age doesn't tie up with being 21 in 1915- but maybe dad got it wrong?
THe whole family were born in Fareham.
The same family in 1891 have a month old son called Henry ;)
Carol
-
Hi
Yes, this is the family two other people on An***stry say is the family, with that Henry marrying Susan
-

Hi Galium,
Oh dear not sure??? that would make his birth 1893
Now we have 1891 1893 1897 and 1899
-
21 on a marriage certificate may mean 'over 21' rather than being an exact age.
-
If Susan Stokes( whoever she is :P) really was 19 at marriage maybe Henry moved his age down a little so as not to look TOOooo old for her?
Or has someone misread 26 for 21?
Carol
-
Hi again Galium
This certificate is from 1915, I reckon 21 means 21 (presuming he wasn't lying)
I do apologise, but I have to go now. Please, if anyone finds anything however small, I would really appreciate it.
Hopefulyl back online tomorrow
Joan :)

Those trees on Ancestry give a death date for Henry of 30 April 1951.
June Q 1951 in the death index list
FEAST Harry T age 60 Stockport 10a 482
FEAST Henry T age 60 Stockport 10a 482
FEAST Harry Thomas birth is registered Jun Q 1891 Fareham district
-
There are four Feast births registered in Swansea district with mother's maiden name Stokes. Three Feast marriages with names matching three of the Swansea births were registered in Stockport district.
-
Hi
I know I have the correct parents, Henry Feast and Susan Mary Stokes. I'm sorry, I cannot see how the other siblings births will help with my dilemma.
I have looked again at those trees on An***try they both show his name as Henry Feast AKA Harry Thomas Feast. So it looks like he is the correct one. My puzzle is now finding Susan Mary Stokes with her father Edward Stephen Stokes occupation Ganager. My husband has said a ganger is a railway term for someone in charge of a railway "gang". I would expect Edward to possibly have been on a census as a railway labourer 1891/1901?
The witnesses as mentioned are a Stephen Stokes (brother??) and Emma Stokes - possible wife of Stephen. But as yet I cannot find s Stephen Stokes marrying an Emma. I really cannot get anywhere?

Hi,
the point I was making is that the age at death of Harry Feast indicates a birth date of c1891.
He died in Stockport district, which is the same district as where three children of Harry Feast and Susan née Stokes were married.
It is, of course quite possible that the two people who have Henry/Harry Feast in their tree on Ancestry have the wrong man, and that the one who married Susan Stokes didn't die in Stockport district, in 1951. But, seeing as the children are marrying in the same district, it looks likely that he is the same one?
Which means that he is probably the Harry Thomas Feast whose birth was registered in Fareham in 1891, and who is Harry Feast in Newport in 1911.
Btw Susan M Feast aged 63 died in Stockport district in Jun Q 1961.
-
Hi
Sorry, its been a long, long day for me - apologies.
Yes, I can now see where you are coming from :) Coincidental if it's not the one that died in Stockport, as his children were all born in Stockport.
Thank you for finding Susan's birth! I feel she is the one born in Rugby. But the marriage was on 2nd August 1915, which if it is the correct one means she was not 19 when she married ?? Oh dear ???

Hello again. Susan Stokes has been niggling at me rather. I couldn't find anything definite, and the one born in Rugby district isn't obvious anywhere in 1901 or 1911. I wonder whether the family were out of the country for a while?
As she says her father is Edward Stephen Stokes, it is interesting that the birth of a child named Edward Stephen Stokes was registered in 1895 in Barrow upon Soar district, and the death of a 1 year old Edward Stephen Stokes in Rugby district the following year.
The witness named Emma Stokes could perhaps be a sister of Susan's. There is a marriage of Emma Stokes and William J Hill in Swansea district in 1920.
There is an Edward S Hill born 1931 in the GRO index with MMn Stokes. Two public trees on Ancestry have this person (now deceased) as the child of William J Hill and Emma Stokes, and his middle name is Stephen. Unfortunately neither of them name Emma Stokes' parents. They both say that Emma Stokes was born in 1901 in Lancashire, but there is no obvious candidate.
Couldn't find anything more definite, but that birth in Rugby does look promising - and it might be worth contacting the two people who have Emma Stokes in their tree.
-
Gosh WOW Galium :o :o :o
Thank you so much for all your hard work here. Will definately chase up the information you have provided.
Let me know when you have nothing to do, I have now received another marriage certificate and have another problem to solve ;D

Hi
This is still a puzzle. I received Susan Mary Stokes birth certificate and yes she is the one born Rugby district 20th March 1897. Father Edward Stephen Stokes railway labourer and mother was Hannah Smith.
I have now made contact with the lady who had Emma Stokes in her tree. She is as stuck as I am. Emma was Susan's sister and it looks like the Edward Stephen who died young in Rugby was their brother.
This contact thinks Edward Stephen Stokes was born 1863 and died 1925. Edward married Hannah in Uppingham, Rutland in 1893.
I'm really hoping I don't have to pay for their marriage certificate. I'm doing this tree for someone and have set a moderate fee, I don't really want to be out of pocket once I have gone as far as I can.
There is an Edward Stephen Stokes born Whissendine Rutland who looks like he might fit the bill (there is also one born Derbyshire). Parents Joseph Stokes born 1832 and Mary Stokes born 1837, they fit in and that Edward has a sister Emma and a sister Susan. But it all goes pear shaped as later on there seems to be another Edward born in the family.
Sorry this is a little long winded. Can someone just take a look at the 1871 RG10; Piece: 3300; Folio: 135; Page: 21 and follow the family and see if they can make any sense of it.
Still cannot find Edward/Hannah/Susan on 1891 1901 1911 or Emma on the 1901 or 1911.
Forgot to mention. On Susan Mary's birth certificate her place of birth is Stillinton Warwicks RD. Cannot find a Stillinton even though it is very clearly written on two places on her certificate.
Any offers please
Thanks

Hi guys, Edward Stephen stokes was my great granddad and his daughters emma and susan were my great aunties. Edward Stephen stokes was born oct 11 1903 in rutland and died feb 1 1920 of pneumonia. I have 9 of them, including my granddad George henry stokes living at hull in the 1911 census. Emma died in 1977 and susan died in 1960 of cancer. I have many photos, death certificates and birth certificates and more information of the stokes family if you wanna to get in contact and share more stuff. Matthew Wilson.

This is totally against RootsChat rules

Saw that you were online earlier Treelover....

HI Sarah, just started back on family trees, I come on here occasionally. My original question was back in 2009. I am no longer in contact with the person I did this tree for and as that person asked to remain anonymous so I am not able to share any info I have.
Is there a problem? I believe I have a personal message but if you look I posted in another forum today that I could not retrieve my pm's and asked for help. So if you have sent me a message sorry I cannot access it. Please feel free to delete this post.
Joan
-
Yes I do have a problem because you have broken RootsChat Rules for requesting money for information that was given to you free and good faith from RootsChatters.
You have received new replies to your posts this year with no replies to the posters although you have been online... :'(
-
Sorry Sarah,
I think you may have misunderstood my old post. I was not asking for money from this forum. When I do trees for people I ask a nominal amount. I completed ALL this persons tree through looking at certificates and census records on Ancestry. This particular one I was stuck on so I asked here as lots of other people do. I am sorry if this particular post broke any rules. What I don't understand is why this was not brought to my attention when it happened way back in 2009!!! I have had computer problems and only changed my email address with this site last week (you can check this). Also, in the past I have had people contact me on here and also on Ancestry. You may find certain questions will have been answered elsewhere. If you wish to delete my account fine, sorry if, after 6 years you decide I broke a rule. By the way, I can still not get my private messages (perhaps something to do with my changing email address - not sure). I shall leave this in your capable hands. Joan

Joan,
I am unable to read all posts on RootsChat, it was only this week that I read the post where you said you were asking for money.
