Title: Alexander Moncrieff/Jane Skene
Post by: cheekywan on Sunday 25 October 09 19:54 GMT (UK)
This is my first post, so here goes ;)  I am stuck trying to find information on Alexander Moncrieff - he married Jane Skene 8 Jun 1821 in Old Machar, Aberdeen.
I could post this on the Aberdeen site, but, though their children Thomas, 1822, Alexander 1824, James 1826, Jane 1827, Andrew 1821 and David 1833 where all born in Aberdeen (Old Machar and St Nicholas), all are living in Perth across every census from 1841 onward, also, Jane Skenes' birth was St Nicholas but her death was recorded in Perth too, she is also on several census records as living in Perth.  So I make the assumption that he moved to Aberdeen from Perth, got married had kids then moved back to Perth.
But I can find no trace of Alexander since the birth of David in 1833, I can't find a death certifcate that would connect him to Jane Skene and list his parents so i can verify.  I was thinking about going with a process of elimination and using the naming pattern as guidance as I'm fairly sure his father's name was Thomas, but there are so many Thomas, Son Alexander combinations I'm not sure where to go.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have a copy of Andrew Mason Moncrieff's death certificate. It show his parents to be Alexander Moncrieff (manufacturer) and Jane Skene. My husband is Andrew's great great grandson.

Hi SMKM I have found this information thanks  ;D

Alexander Moncrieff was the son of Thomas Moncrieff (Gardener), I have this information and if you want it I'm happy to share.  I am related to this Alexander Moncrieff through my mum who is the Great, Great Grandaughter of Andrews brother David.  Andrew had several siblings, again I'm happy to share what info I have.

Hi Heather,

Any information about Moncrieffs would be wonderful. I have David and his siblings on my tree, but no information about them except the years and locations of their births. I obviously have quite a lot of stuff on Andrew.

Any information about Alexander, his wife Jane and their ancestors would be great.

If you would like any stuff about Andrew and his family I too am obviously very happy to share. Andrew's grandson Alan Aird Moncrieff is quite interesting

Does anyone know about Alexander jun. baptised in 1824? Did he join the 91st Regiment? He seems to be absent from the rest of the family in the 1851 census.

Great !
Have sent you an email reply with some more info. The Moncrieffs were a very large family. Moved to Birmingham when daughter Janet b 1855 was about 5 years old i think.

(NB - Not sure if these Moncrieffs are related to topic OP)
