That's it basically, we have an Epson Stylus SX205 and although it already has 2 *fake* ink cartridges it's refusing to accept a 3rd, so I got a proper Epson cartridge this morning and it still tells me I have no magenta ink. I've tried switching it off and on again (the limit of my bag of tricks) and swearing at it but no joy. Any suggestions please?
Thank you

This is probably something you've tried:-
Our Epson sometimes tries this (we use Jettec cartridges) - so far I've managed to "cure" it by taking the cartridge out & re-inserting it a few times.
Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, I've given it a go but it still won't work. I may have to resort to magical incantations (work, you useless piece of technology)

Try doing a nozzle check. it might kick start it :-\

You did take the insulation off the contacts? Apart from that, those contacts (both sets) may need a clean with a cotton bud and a little bit of meths.

Yes, I was very careful to follow the instructions as it's the first time I've ever done it. I'll get OH to try the other suggestions when he comes in, I'm sure we have some meths but no idea where it is.
Thank you all for the ideas.

I hate to say this, but on amazon there are the 'real' cartridges for sale, not too expensive. A lot of the feedback is from people like me buying fake ones from ebay!
I had trouble with Epson cartridges too. False warnings of low ink. My printer has four separate colours, black, magenta, yellow and Cyan. It only takes one of those to go wrong and I can't print anything.

Sounds like a faulty cartridge to me.
Most 'compatible' cartridges are recycled, refilled original cartridges. If the cartridge was faulty (or had already been recycled a few times) then the chip wouldnt be recognised by the printer and it would fail as being empty or faulty.
I would return it to wherever it was bought and ask for a refund or replacement - in the UK you are entitled to this under the sale of goods act 1974 (fit for purpose clause)
LOL I work for a stationers I sell cartridges all day every day!:p

Well we tried everything and it finally gave in and is now working, at least until we replace the yellow which is *low* ;).
