Here's a bit more detail than you can get online.....
Parents John SMITH & Isabella MATHESON.....
John SMITH died 1st October 1868
Ref = 1868/000557
Janet Davidson SMITH died 21st November 1883
Ref = 1883/B016112
AlexanderSMITH died 18th October 1884
Ref = 1884/004991
I can't help with more details of those past 1889 however.
Correction ......
Janet Davidson SMITH died 21st November 1883
Ref = 1883/B016112
Parents are given as John Davidson and Isabella Mathieson.
And for Alexander name is spelt Matherson, and for John the name is spelt Mathewson. ::)

Hello Rona, and welcome to Rootschat. :)
You need Heaross (the original poster of this thread, to come online and see your messages, and as Jamjar said, this is a slow time of the year for Rootschat. I am usually online most of the day and evening, but for the past 3 days have been otherwise occupied.

Hey there Rona & co. Isabella was my gt, gt, gt grandfather's sister. James was his name. I'm wondering if you know what boat James and Isabella went to Australia on and why John and Lillias went back to Scotland. I was told they went to Melbourne in 1855 with Isabella and James but Lillias died in Scotland in 1857. Then John Liilias Jnr and Annie came to NZ on the Harwood in 1858. I would love to catch up as I'm trying to research back further to James & Isabel Logan but I would love to fill in the blanks I have. Thanks in advance :)
-
I also have copies of letters written to Isabella & John from Isabella's father
-
Hi guys,
John Smith is my 4th great grandfather. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I noticed Rona smith had death certificates, but hasn't been online since 2010. My line goes John-Donald George-Daniel Club-William Henry-Cliffe Joseph-living-Myself. Any info would be great.
Cheers Karl Smith (Brisbane. Australia)

Good afternoon Rona,
I am descended from Donald born 25.3.1819 to Isabella Matheson and John Smith.
Donald died in Qld.
line as follows
Donald Smith, James Clubb Smith (Clubb is a common middle name amongst descendents), James Henry Michael Smith, Elsie Elisha Blackwell ( my grandmother) Elsie Elisha Bell ( my mum) and then me , Belinda.
the folklore is that James Henry Michael was rich and well to do but squandered all the family money when his wife died.
My grandmother grew up in Hen & Chicken Bay Sydney ( now Five Dock) she was also left in a convent when all the money was gone. Her brothers 'rescued' her and she went on to marry and have 11 children (including my mum) . Most of my people are in the Wollongong/Illawarra area of NSW now.
Belinda Bell
-
karl smith, I think we have the same line as the Clubb name ( a maiden name of a mother) comes up in my line too.
Belinda Bell
-
Hi Karl,
I too am descended from Isabella & John, through Donald.
We also have Clubb as middle name common (this was a maiden name of one of the wives)
We must compare notes.
Belinda Bell
