Title: Blairdrummond / Kincardine Moss Map
Post by: Fergie38 on Thursday 05 November 09 23:01 GMT (UK)
I apologise if I have posted this before but this link (http://www.freewebs.com/fergie38/Blairdrummond/Blairdrummond%20Map%20(800).jpg) will take anyone interested to a map of Blairdrummond / Kincardine Moss.
I think the map depicts the area as in circa 1900. If anyone can put an accurate date on it, I would be most interested in knowing.
I had often wondered why a school had been built in such a sparsely populated area until I saw this map.

Cheers.

Hi my great great grandfather James Heron B1843 Blairgowrie married Janet Buchanan , daughter of John Buchanan and Janet McGibbon, in 1870 @ Blair Drummond.

Janet was 23 at the time and was a domestic servant.

James was a gardener at the Pollok Estate near to Glasgow and went onto be the Head Gardener there.

So not sure how they would have crossed paths to meet.

Hi Pricey,

I am descended from John Buchanan's sister  Elizabeth (1804).  I have information on their parents (Archibald Buchanan and Janet McGowan) and grandparents (John Buchanan and Janet Ferguson), some from the OPR's and some from IGI and census.

Wow that`s great    can you tell me more   especially about Janet and her parents...Janet who is obviously also my grandmother too and James Heron moved to POLLOK HOUSE near to Glasgow where he became Head Gardener until his death in 1922.
Janet unfortunately passed away and James remarried but Janet and James gave birth to my great grandfather Robert George Heron who`s daughter Janet is my mum`s mum !!! I have photos of James but not Janet......
I have Janet`s death entry and marriage enry to James if you are interested..............

No. If the transcription is the work of someone else then it is under copyright. If you have sight of the original image (eg from Scotland's People) and make your own transcription that is ok.

There are quite a few threads around on copyright and what is allowed. Try reading them as a first stop, then if you have any queries just ask :)

Not all information I have is from the IGI.  I have transcribed a fair amount myself.

I guess I will post a few more times then share the information with Pricey via Personal Message.

Hi
I am descended from this Janet McGowan's sister Elizabeth who was born 1786 in Orchyardhead, Kincardine by Doune. I have the McGowans back to 1635 in Kincardine if you pm me.

Is that you Fiona? If so the McGowans are another connection as well as our Stewarts!

HI Val,

Yes, it's me, Fiona :)  I'm fairly new to this website and don't get much time to play around.

Sorry I missed you when I was home last year (2010).  I plan another trip next year (2012) so hopefully we can meet up then.

Did you contact Pricey with your info?  I hadn't  made enough posts at the time to do so.

F.

Hello.  I am new here.  I am descended from Archibald Buchanan and Janet MacGowan.   How and who do I IM for more info -- that is as far back as I have and it sounds like several of you have more information.  I am also looking for more info for Janet McGibbon.
Thank you.

Folks, Cunninghame Graham's book "Notes on the District of Menteith" covers this area, well worth a read.
