I have been trying to follow the line of my gggrandfahter's brother, Edgar Grierson Henderson. He was born in 1860 in Torthorwald. He married in 1891 to Agnes Campbell (b. 1872). According to the 1901 census they have four children, Robert (1893), Edgar (1896), Minnie (1896), and Samuel (1899). Edgar G. died at sea on board the ship Astoria in 1901. He was a crew member. I guess it is highly probable Agnes remarried. Would the children change names too?

There is a death of an Agnes Henderson (other name Campbell) on SP for 1937 in Dumfries, but with an approximate birth year of 1868. Ages can be out on death certificates though so I wouldn't discount it just yet.
There are no other names mentioned on that death record, so if it is your Agnes, it seems likely she didn't remarry. Usually in those instances, children would keep their father's name.

Just to confirm - this is the death of Agnes. She died 15.10.1937 at Caul Back House in Dumfries. Her parents were Samuel - a railway foreman and Williamina Stewart. Her son Edgar signed the d.c and he still lived in Dumfires at the time. All we need to do now is find Edgar and his siblings.

After some searching: Robert Campbell Henderson passed away in 1974 in Edinburgh. Samuel Campbell Henderson passed away in 1968 in Dumfries. Wilhelmina Grierson Henderson passed away in Dumfries at the age of 94 in 1988. How easy is it to view their newspaper obituaries?

It seems Edgar changed his name to Edward Grierson Henderson. He married Elizabeth Crammond in 1922. He died in Dumfries in 1946.

Edgar Greirson was my GGGrandfarther with my relatives still living in dumfries i would be happy to give you any info that may help.

hi - im new to this - but i am a henderson - granddaughter and great-granddaughter of robert henderson the first and second.
im not sure about edgar - but my grandfather was born in harbour grace NL in the 1890's - his father is named robert as well - and i believe that he married a Jane - My name is jane ....does this sound like the family you are looking for?

I am not sure. How many different Hendersons could there be in Harbour Grace? I think Robert Henderson and Jean (Jane) Grierson's son moved to Harbour Grace no later than 1864. He married Ann Gordon then Annie Gordon. His children might have been:
Reuben Gordon
James Edgar
Jean
Thomas
William
Robert - who married Irene Rich

I have Neville Henderson son of #1 Robert Henderson and Irene Rich
Robert Henderson #1 was the son of #2 Robert Henderson and Louise
#2 Robert Henderson was the son of Thomas Henderson from Dumfries Scotland and Ann Eliza Gordon from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. He was also brother of James Edgar Henderson, my grandfather.
Do you have a Chesley as a brother to Neville?

Samuel Henderson was my Grandfather, Minnie my Great Aunt never married and brought up her siblings when her Mother died. Samuel had 7 children, my Mother is the second youngest. Let me know if you want any more information

He died at sea on the SS Aurora, my Mother seemed to think he was some kind of merchant on it as a tea ship? Though I haven't found anything to support that. his wife I believed turned quite religious, never married again and Minnie my Great Aunt brought her siblings up. She was a Grand Old lady who lived into her eighties and tried hard to teach me piano. She never married and had a stroke quite young and never left the house all the time I knew her. However she read the broadsheets and listened to BBC Radio and could tell you anything that was going on in the world. My Grandfather Samuel died when I was about 3 or 4 and as I said had 7 children.
