Title: Padgate Cottage Homes, Warrington
Post by: joanna69 on Monday 23 November 09 20:23 GMT (UK)
Hello there

I am keen to see the records of this place.  Does anyone know if they exist?  Should i try Warrington Library or maybe council?

I really need to see records from the 1910 - 1920 period to check the dates children from my MIL's were resident there.  The dates will help clear up an almost 100 year mystery!   There were 5 children. 2 were half brother and sister to the other 3.  By a cruel twist of fate they ALL ended up at the home at some point after 1918- never knowing that the other set of children were in any way related to them.  It has taken this long to finally discover the "other half" of the family and we've all made connections and its been brilliant.  Sadly all the children concerned have all passed away now as its so long ago so they never did find out about their other half siblings.  We are almost there with the facts of what went on but knowing the dates when the oldest 2 children were put into the home would really be helpful.

Hi,

 :)

There is some information on this link:-

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Warrington/Warrington.shtml

According to the information here, Lancashire Records Office hold what few records remain and and there don't look to be many.  Warrington Library is also a good place to try.

Hope you find something.

Thanks for that link.  As you say, does't look like much survives. I'll contact the library and see if they can help.  If not, never mind.  It will just have to be one of those mysteries.

Hi again,

Have you seen this website?  It might be worth putting a post on there or even contacting the owner of the website.  He might well know what records survive and where they are.

or

you could send a letter into the Warrington Guardian with an appeal for information.  Local papers are usually really helpful in printing such letters.
