Title: Martin Thomas WRIGHT b:Dartford 1822c
Post by: Shirley Sweetland on Tuesday 01 December 09 07:28 GMT (UK)
Researching my Gt Gt G/father Martin/Marton's ancestry. His marriage info at Rotherhithe 1849 names his father as Martin/Marton WRIGHT also. He later uses only the christian name of Thomas and also uses the surname of JONES on censuses from 1851 through to 1881 for some reason. All info on his marriage cert and children's baptisms he uses the name WRIGHT.

He was a 'Toll Collector' in 1849 as was his father, and later a 'Railway policeman' This coincides with the opening of the Thames tunnel and later it being taken over by the railway.

Dartford parishes registers are on Medway Cityark

http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=/Z4a_Medway_Ancestors/

They may hold the answers to the JONES/ WRIGHT puzzle.
