Hi Wendy.
I'm sure there will be willing helpers here for your search, but there are a couple of things which might help.

Firstly, congratulations on having such lovely old photos, but could you take them  off or ask a moderator to do it for you.

They stretch the screen as they are so large, making reading you query a bit difficult and adding to download time.

Because there is not much punctuation and mixed capitalization, I find it tricky to work out this section

........ havnt got anything on my uncles Hilton Frank Hopetoun turville Sydney  , WENDY

Hard to establish how many individuals you are mentioning and whether they were born Sydney or that was the name of one of them.

Lastly, could you let us know what specifically are you sarching for in this family as there seems to be a lot of very good information already. :)

E.G. Is it their births and deaths, their addresses or something else?

These thought are intended with kindness ;D

Hi and welcome to Alison 2763 and Raylen you found me great to see.
This is the other side of the Clara Emma Catherine MARTINfamily tree I am placing together.
With such great responce to that search I thought it was time to put my grand father Percy Macness TURVILLES search into place. So pleased to see you are here working along side me in the quest for family knowledge I have every faith in your ability to find and search for the right lines having seen how you all traced my ansesters in my grand mothers search, thank you. you are on the right line theses are ansesters of my line.
  :)
I have been requested to take the photos off in this search I am in the middle of trying to do this I have contacted the moderater hoping that I can get the help to re-size them for the site so if family members who don't know of their descendants can see my side of the Turville family or add to it .
If I still haven't made it clear enough as to what my search is for please don't hesitate to let me know I'm only to happy to elaborate ;)

welcome Sparrett,
I am after any info on all that I have entered all sorts of info.

I was taken from my family and left with all sorts of people growing up not ever knowing who I really was and where I came from .
So it is important to me to find out as much as I can about the people in my family for the future of my own family I have  children and grandchildren that ask the questions and I would love to answer them with the right information if I can, I feel it is important to gather as much as I can to give information to them to pass down to their children, you never know with genetic lines and for health reasons that may occur. I am trying to readd the photos I took off the page as I think it is important to veiw themI feel it gives the searchers a conection with who we are and where. Thank you for helping me to rethink my search it was in need of more thourght.
with warm regards

Hello there Wendy I had realised who your mother was, just showing you  the RYERSON INDEXwhich if you look at at the site is only for Deaths/Burials etc noting to do with thier births or marriages.

It was interesting to note  the Jean Marjorie Turville though

hi tiropicalj
it is interesting and very unsettling to see that what I had always thought my mothers name was wasn't the right way around but most of all, I wasn't told she was jean instead of Marjorie.
I was the one who took care of her funeral I'm  :-[ sad to think that someone might of entered her details wrong , isn't it interesting how easily peoples information can be mishandled and descendants only hope that the information that is recorded is correct sigh, I still thank you for your effort I know how hard it is to find simple things.  warm regards

Wendy

you have totally misunderstood my postings.

TURVILLE Jean Marjorie died 1977 Death  late of Toowoomba

I take it this lady is not your mother

you state your mother's details as

Marjorie jean TURVILLE her passing was on the 22nd of december 1994.

I  think  these are two totally different ladies with very similiar names though

Death dates for
Ann TURVILLE 7/3/1886

Reading the will I notice his wife named as Eliza Elizabeth
and that Thomas had a step daughter.

Given that his wife Ann died in 1886 this is possibly
his remarriage

Hi Wendy
I am a descendent of Annie Florence Stead nee Turville.
She was the second wife of Joseph Henry Stead (formerly Steads), engineer.
Her son Walter Adrian Stead  (1891 - 1859)
and his sons Walter Goullee Stead (1912 - 1994)
and my father Alfred Turville Stead (1914 - 1981)
were all engineers.
I have entered all of the info I have on Ancestry.com but realise not everyone has access.  It is great to find all of the additional info you have provided.

Welcome to rootstchat Lyn :)

I am sure Wendy will be delighted to make contact with you. :)

Lyn have you read the book on the TURVILLE's in Aus?

I had actually found a lot of TURVILLE [including STEAD's] info but didn't post it on the board when I noted the year the book was published.  I understand that Percy Mackness TURVILLE and sons are mentioned but not his two daughters who were born after 1918 in NSW.

I see there was a partnership between Joseph Henry STEAD and TURVILLE which was dissolved in 1875. Was this with Thomas TURVILLE?

You may have these but just in case you haven't...

http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/5951732?searchTerm=turville++stead

http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/7439390?searchTerm=turville++stead

Following on from the above snippet, it would seem that Ann TURVILLE was a wealthy woman in her own right.  She died intestate and the Letters of Admin and Probate Grant are on the PROV website.

Cheers
Cando

Edit...I have just had a browse through your online tree Lyn and congratulations on a well presented and well resourced tree. :)  So many people fail to cite and reference their sources.

i don't know what got me to start my search in history Lyn but as you can see there are some amazing people who are the back bone of this family history search every one is to be comended for their galant efforts to give me the strength I have needed to know who I am and why I think and do the things that make me who I am, genetic history.
I am a new member of ancestry.com. I was trying to do things there but I had such a overwhelming responce here in rootchat the people here have taken me under their wings had have litrally flown away with me and my descendant's to height's I never expected to reach.
I hope that you enjoy our family search and join in.I have all faith in theses very compassionate and helpful people and can't thank them enough.I think it might be time for me to now enter a photo of us here. I would like to show you a photo of my grandfather and grandmother I have tried to enter them here but I don't know how to make the jpeg size smaller for viewing but I'll try to find some one who can help us out.

Hi Everyone

Thanks Cando for the links - I have attached them to my Ancestry profiles.  I have also ordered the John Turville book from the National Library (or the first 50 pages).  I don't know if it was Thomas Turville who was in partnership with Joseph Stead - more to research!  Thanks for your kind words, too.  I find Ancestry.com convenient for the way I work, and I hope you will too, Wendy.

I have only been searching for family history info for the last year and the John Turville book is of great interest as I want to go further back to the English records, if possible.
I have only one photo of Ann Florence Turville and was hoping to find some of Thomas Turville and Ann Mackness.

Isn't it wonderful how much info is now available online through databases and chat rooms!

Cheers, Lyn

Wendy what a lovely cheerful family photo :)  I hope someone can resize them for you...we can't see you as a child ;)

Lyn as the publication was only published in 2003 I think you may have to obtain permission from the author for the book to be copied.  I have been down this path before and fortunately the author of the publication I was interested in, mailed one of his own copies.   I understand the NLA may not have the author's latest address.  I will send you a pm.

I have just a bit of a browse for info for the STEAD/TURVILLE partnership -

TURVILLE Thos [Thomas]
Gazetted  16 Jul 1875
Place  11 Little Collins St Melbourne, Victoria
Victoria Government gazette - Page 1387
Under sub title heading  Dissolution of Partnerships. Business: "Stead and Turville"

The address is identical to the address of Joseph STEAD in the newspaper item.  So it would appear he was in partnership with Thomas and reference is made in the newspaper to a partnership with Turville which was dissolved prior to Aug 1875.

I certainly agree with you last comment.  I do all my research sitting in the farm office.  Of course so much research does need access to subscription based websites.

Cheers :)

Hi everyone I guess thats how busy this turville history search has become how wonderful.
Cando in the photo of my mother and I its only a small piece of my arm and face it dosnt show me. I placed it there for the Turville plark just so lyn would know I'm a real member for the turville family side of Percy Macness TURVILLE.
There is  1 book in archives Lyn with the national Library.it is 125 pages long I havnt seen it as yet I was going to order it as well I need to join a librery here that supports it without a high price tag for borrowing it a bond so to speak.
I still dont know how to place all this infomation on to a file for keeping like you Lyn Im only new to all of this as I have said I would like to see your ansetery file you have put together what is the heading for it in ansestery.com. thank to some great people are in order
My family give thanks to :

Hi Wendy

I will try and get the whole book too.  I have asked for it in electronic form so I can pass on what I do get to you.  I am a member of the Genealogical Soc of Vic, but still have to get to Melb to their library - I will see if I can get the rest of the book from them.

Using Ancestry is easy, just time consuming.  Start with your parents and grandparents and it will link to the data I have entered and that will save you some time.  My tree is a public access one called Stead family, but you will link to it when you enter your own information.  Be careful about the spelling, though - it is Mackness, not Macness.

I like to do all of the searching when the afternoons are too hot to work outside, so I may not be online all day.  It is great that we can find out about this side of the family together.  Thanks to all of the contributors.

Cheers, Lyn

It will be very interesting to see what  the book on  the Turville reveals, as it is more than likely that Thomas had a brother John Turville who was a convict who was sent to van diemans land and then went to Victoria also after he was released.  This might explain why Thomas went to Tassie and then to the mainland.

I have also discussed this with Cando and she feels  the same way.  We dont won't to stay posting information  that might just turn out to be irrelevant. ;)
and fill the thread up with red herrings etc. 8)

Nothing concrete to establish  this without certificates but by the UK census  Thomas did have a brother John of the same age as the John Turville convict.

There is a death in Victoria for John Turville the age is allright for the time frame but unfortunately  no parents names are shown.

kind thoughts Jenn

Hi Wendy, you are receiving this chat from your 1st cousin Des Turville. I spoke with Paul Morcom who told me that he had been in touch with you. We have not seen or spoken since I drove you from walgett to Sydney, many years ago. I have lost contact with Barry Drinnan also. Paul Morcom is going to send me your contact details, if he does before I hear from you I will make contact. If you remember me, you can make contact with me via my home email (*) My wife Marion may answer.
Love to hear from you,

Your long lost cousin, Des.

I have attached photos of Percy and Clara as well as Percy as a child with his parents. Sorry they are so large.

Hello,
My great grandmother was Clare and my grandfather was Hilton. I am one of many Sydney Turvilles. Hilton married and had four children, two sons and two daughters. Frank, Judith, Colin and Julie. They all married and had 13 children between them.
My father is Frank. I have a sister and a brother, and we three have had 10 children.
Like his father, my father had a foundry in Peakhurst in Sydney, as did my uncle.
You will be spammed if I let everyone know about this family tree!
