Looking for any information on James and Janet Lambs family. In 1871 they lived in Kirkden. I do know that George and James went to South Africa and that David was an officer of the Salvation Army. James is my husbands greatgrandfather. Any help would be appreciated.

I do belive so. I was not sure of mothers maiden name. Both David and James have the middle name of Crichton. I know Jessie married James Robertson and they lived in Detroit, Michigan, David married Mary Clinton and James married Helen/Elenor Rosina Smith.

From what I have found David Lamb, born 26 Oct. 1866, was apprenticed to a chemist in Aberdeen, but on Oct.21, 1882 he went to an Army meeting and was converted. He spent the next 55 years in service. According to the funeral program I have his children were Catherine, Meta, Jane, Alexander, David who died in youth and Patrick who was killed in the war. He died Tytherton Lucas, Wiltshire on 7 July, 1951. I found an old pic of him and my husbands father bears an uncanny resemblance.
James Lamb worked for Stores Brothers and went to South Africa to open a store.He died in England in 1903. His children were Rosie born July 24 1893, Janet was born in England around 1893, Chrissie born Jan.7 1896, Nellie (husbands grandmother) May 10 1897, James around 1900. Rosie died of malaria sometime between 1897 and 1903.
Mary died in 1908.
Do you know anything about a Charles that who had a wife , Martha?
Jessie had 3 children, Ada, James and Jessie. A cousin remembers visiting Ada and Jessie in the 70's and does not think they ever married.

if jane lamb born 10th june 1869 kirkden is not on the 1871 census then
sadly she may have died the year before
there is an entry on deceased online website for jane lamb died 10th march
1870 , buried 13th march 1870 friockheim cemetery angus
this could match a death on scotlandspeople for jane lamb died 1870 kirkden
angus age recorded as 0 years :-\
do you have any more details for charles and martha ?
i haven't seen anything about them
do you have the details for patrick lamb who died in ww1 ?
if not i think i found his death in 1918 on CWGC

Sorry. All I have for Charles and Martha is that they were in Rhodesia in the late 1890's. I have names of family members (from old letters) who were still in Zimbabwe as of 1993, but do not know who the descend from.
I thought Patrick died in Dec.1918, but in a New York Times artical I have dated Sept 5, 1918it reads Commissioner Lambs son, Lieutenant Patrick Lamb of the Royal Garrison Artillery had been killed and that his youngest son had been wounded and gasses in the fighting around Rheims.Patricks wifes name was Edith and I belive he father was Dr. Robert Wilmot.

That explains why I cann't find a marriage record. Edith did remarry someone with the last name Reid.
Do you know anything about a daughter of James who was left behind when he went to South Africa? Her name was Mary or May.

I'm a bit late to the party, but assume this may still be of some interest.
My late father was David George Lamb Macdonald, son of Thomas and Janet Kater Macdonald (nee Lamb). Janet was the daughter of James Crichton and Eleanor Rosina Lamb (nee Smith). She died in around 1975. James and his brother George Lamb did indeed go to South Africa and then went with the pioneer column to settle in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Both brothers were initially with Store Brothers in Johannesburg (I understand James may have had a spell in Kimberley). They opened the Salisbury (Rhodesia) branch of the operation. James and Eleanor had five children : Rosie (died in infancy but was the first birth officially registered in the country at the instigation of Mrs Lamb), Janet (my grandmother), Christina (married name Reeves), Nellie (married name Harding) and finally a son James Crichton (Jnr). In her book "Experiences of Rhodesia's Pioneer Women" author Jeannie M Boggie wrote a chapter on Mr & Mrs Lamb of Store Brothers chronicling many of the memories of my Grandmother (Janet).
