Hi Thorgils

What sort of information are you looking for on Peter? By the sounds of it, with his birth and marriage, you have details on his parents and then his children from his marriage to Elizabeth.

Hi MonicaLesl,

I was interested in his parents if possible and perhaps his occupation and where he lived if possible.

I was planning eventually to travel and would like to eventually see where some of my family come from.

Thanks

Thorgils

What were Peter's parents' names? Have you looked at Peter and Elizabeth's marriage cert to confirm their names? I can see Elizabeth Jack's birth entry on IGI with the details you have b. 17 aug 1867 (parents John Jack and Elizabeth Davidson). Can't easily see Peter's entry to try and find his parents and family.

This looks to be Elizabeth and the children in 1901, with Peter showing away from home. The children all showing as born in Lossiemouth except the eldest:

Elizabeth Young 33, Hurband Is Gent (?spl - general?) Labourer b. Fochabers
Elizabeth Young 9 b. Garmouth, Elginshire
Mary Young 7
Peter Young 5
Nellie Young 3
William Young 1

Address: 49 Clifton Rd, Drainie, Moray

Possible for Peter in 1901:

Donald McLennan 25
Peter Young 32, mason's labourer b. Garmouth
William Desson 57

Address: Wardend Bothy, Rafford Moray

This looks to be Peter and Elizabeth in 1891:

Peter Young 23 Ironworks Labourer, b. Garmouth Morayshire
Lizzie Young 22, b. Fochabers, Morayshire

Address: 121 Lambhill St, Plantation, Govan Lanarkshire

Hi Ev

That entry was the closest I could see as well. There were also twins born to that couple in 1865. Can't see the family in 1871 which doesn't help.

Would be good if you could confirm Peter's parents' names Thorgil  :)

There is this 1871 entry on Ancestry as a perhaps - maybe mother's name has been mis-transcribed:

Peter Young 42, agr. lab., b. Deskford, Banffshire
Elva Young 39 b. Deskford, Banffshire
Eliza Young 11 b. Deskford, Banffshire
Alexander Young 10 b. Deskford, Banffshire
George Young 7 b. Deskford, Banffshire
Jessie A Young 3 (maybe age 5, one of the potential twins b. 1865) b. Urquhart, Elginshire
Mary J Young 5 b. Urquhart, Elginshire
Peter Young 3 b. Urquhart, Elginshire
James Young 2 b. Urquhart, Elginshire
Elspet Young 2 Months b. Urquhart, Elginshire

Hi Guy's

Sorry I havent got back to you for a while but Xmas is Xmas and things are getting a bit rushed  :P

I dont know the names of his parents however for some reason the surname Black does sound familiar

I have been looking through my grandmothers old papers (she died a couple of months ago) and finding various bits of info scribed on paper so I havent had a lot of info to work with but certainly Black does sound very familiar.

Thanks for all your efforts everyone you have all been FANTASTIC and I wish you all a very Merry Xmas

Hi, you mention above that John Young married Margaret Edward or McQueen.  John Young was my 5th gr grandfather.  He married Margaret McQueen and they had the children you listed above.  Their son John who died in the Stotfield disaster was my 4th gr uncle.  He married Margaret Edward.  My line through Young/McQueen is Janet b 1770 who married William Crockett.  William also died in the Stotfield disaster.  I haven't been able to discover what happened to Janet Crockett nee Young.
