Hi all
The URGENCY is, Chelle was given the news on Wednesday night 23rd Dec that her mother only has days to live.... Her mother always said she wanted to be buried with her father, and its Chelle's dream to do so, time is running out, and Chelle is run off her feet, so was HOPING we could all search / phone around, see what we can do to help her find her grandads grave
We are trying to find the grave of Harry Victor Green b 1906 d 1965 he was buried in, in Watford his wife who's name could be one the grave stone is Gladys Irene and possibly mums name Maureen . They lived in Vicarage Road.
I have linked the other post, done by Chelle 71 a while back,
Thanks all
Daizi

This is the death, so he may have been buried / cremated in Harrow,
Harry V Green died 1965 reported age 58. Death registered in Harrow, ref 5f 466
Am only guessing, as i am in OZ and dont know the area

Hi
I'm sorry to hear Chelle's news - we had the same this time last year.
Probably the best thing would be to contact Harrow council, explain the situation and ask them if they have any record of his burial/cremation. When I did something similar with Croydon they were very helpful. The problem is I doubt whether the offices will be open until Tuesday.

Thanks groom

Hi again
It seems there isn't a crematorium in Harrow but they use the Breakspear one in Hillingdon. I don't know if there are also graves there.
http://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/index.jsp?articleid=9794
Or when the time comes the local undertaker might be able to track it down, they are usually very good and obviously know who to ask.
I've just googled "Harrow burial records" and it appears that Harrow Council's register office maintains burial records for all cemeteries in the area. I can't get the link to work on here, so suggest you just google it and see what it says :)
Good luck

Groom, I have got it....what do you want me to do with it?

Watford Borough Council is the first place to start, since Harrow is not that far from Watford and he may have died in hospital in that registration district.
Unfortunately the council website seems to be offline at the moment but the telephone number for the North Watford Cemetery Manager is 01923 672157. There is also a cemetery in Vicarage Road, Watford! However, this is now closed to burials :(
The cemetery is now full with no new grave spaces available; the only burials taking place are those in common graves (graves without owners) and the Garden of Rest.
It is unlikley that anyone will be in the offices until Tuesday. :(
If he was cremated then it may have been the West Hertfordshire crematorium
http://www.westhertscrem.org/
However, should Chelle71 need more immediate advice on locating the grave, then perhaps the funeral director may be able to assist with their contacts.
Also the library for the local paper archives which may have the funeral notice in it.
Best wishes to Chelle at this sad time.

Hi
Can you put it on here for Craizi Daizi so she can look at it? I still dont think there is anything that can be done until Tuesday as everything will be shut for Christmas :(

Thanks one and all for your replies and suggestions, i know Chelle appreciates it all,

If I can help on this one, I will.
I'll throw my hat in. Might not help much but I will get ringing around Tuesday...unlikely any phones will be answered tomorrow in UK as it's Bank Holiday.

God speed, Reaybo!

Thankyou everyone for what your doing , i feel so guilty not having much time to do the research myself i am truly grateful to you all .

Hi Chelle
It would most probably help the councils and funeral directors if you had the exact date (or near enough) of death for your grandfather and grandmother.
Although the Watford site is currently out of action, there is information at the Hertfordshire site here
http://www.hertsdirect.org/atozofservices/distborserv/burialgrave/
Although Vicarage Road may now be closed for new burials, it may still be possible for burials in existing plots if they were purchased for multiple use.
You may be able to speak to someone at Three Rivers cemetery dept here, cemeteries are usually open on bank holidays and some of the staff may be available to help
http://www.threerivers.gov.uk/Default.aspx/Web/Cemeteries
Although they lived in Watford, don't exclude the possibility of burial just outside eg Carpenders Park
http://www.brent.gov.uk/cemetery.nsf/Cemeteries/LBB-8
or Harrow Weald
http://www.harrow.gov.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?documentID=481&pageNumber=3
or North Watford Cemetery
http://www.yell.com/b/North+Watford+Cemetery-Crematoria+and+Cemeteries-Watford-WD250AW-452149/index.html
And just to clarify, Breakespeare crematorium is just a crematorium, there are no burial plots except for ashes.
Although most Funeral Directors will take out of hours phone calls, unless you track down the one that was used last time, they won't be able to help until they speak to the cemeteries dept when they re-open on Tuesday.
You may also have to come to terms with the possibilty of not being allowed a burial in the same plot if it is full. To overcome this most cemeteries allow the interment of ashes after cremation.
Chelle, please don't worry about the time it takes to find the plot, both Watford & Harrow Councils cemetery departments deal with this type of enquiry almost daily. And the Funeral Director should also allow the family plenty of time to make all the necessary arrangements and give you all the options.
I hope this is helpful for you at this time.

Thankyou Dawn x

Hi Chelle
Dawn is absolutely right re the time to make arrangements. When my father died 10 years ago we delayed the funeral for over 3 weeks as my sister and her family were on holiday in Australia and my Mum insisted they didn't come home early.
Take care, thinking of you

Watford Borough Council is the first place to start, since Harrow is not that far from Watford and he may have died in hospital in that registration district.
We already established on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,423638.msg2904644.html#msg2904644
that he died in Mount Vernon,Stanmore hence being registered in Harrow rather than Watford where they lived.
Of course the fact that he died there doesn't mean he was buried there and he could well have been taken back to nearer home.....ie Watford.
I was down at Breakspear Crem (Ruislip) just before Xmas- my dad was cremated there in 1970.We lived in Harrow Weald.
Hope you find it soon- Harrow Council are very good if you email them.
But of course no one is back at work till Tuesday :(

Hi
When you do locate the grave another issue may come into it, who owns the grave? I'm not sure what the procedure is regarding the cemetery giving out contact information. When my mother died we fortunately found the relevent paperwork so there was no problem as it was in my mothers name.

Chelle,
Can you give us the exact date that Harry Green died please.Breakspear Crem have a remembrance book and also I have a friend in Harrow who can go to the library on Tuesday to look for an obit in the Harrow Observer.
But realised that all we have is the March 1/4 of 1965 age 58!

So glad to have helped Chelle- I feel very proud,as I found his death on the other thread too didn't I...as soon as you said he died in Mount Vernon I knew that Harrow registration HAD to be him, even with a surname like Green ;D
I lost my mum in May this year and was looking her up over Christmas in the memorial book to wish her happy christmas and suddenly thought that your grandad's name was probably in the appropriate book too.
He was ;)
Hope your mum can take comfort in that fact, now knowing where his remains lie.
All the best
