Title: Llandeilo'r fan Tomos Jones
Post by: GPJ on Saturday 02 January 10 21:06 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find more information on Thomas Jones (Its not unusual!) who was born around 1789 and died on 24 January 1835.  He married an Anne (born about 1790) who went on to live until 1885).  They were living in Llandeilo'r fan on Pantllefrith fach farm.
I have looked at the Bishops transcripts index 1714-1813 and can only find reference to them once with the birth of their daughter Mary in 1813.
I know Anne was born in Llandeilo'r fan and I am presuming that Thomas was to, however I cannot find any reference to their marriage or the birth of Thomas.
Does anybody have have any reference to this family, or could offer me some advice on what steps to take next!

Diolch/thanks

Checked my recon., had it at ref. 25.25. No marriage found yet, could be the P.R. 3 year gap thing. This work done 1990 partly at the NLW. There were 9 children 4 boys & 3 girls. No MIs at Llandeilo'r fan. A Mgt. W. Nash might have had a connection with this family. What is your interest?
Are you in the Powys FHS?

Diolch am yr ymateb.
My records show that Thomas and Anne Jones had 11 children, 5 boys and 6 girls.
I am a direct descendant of Thomas Jones who would have been my G, G, G, Great Grandfather!
What is the P.R. (parish record?) 3 year gap and "MI"?
I am not a member of the Powys FHS, but would be grateful for any help or contacts that would be useful as I have hit a brick wall with my research.

Diolch yn fawr

I do my emails in the local library. Not got my USB memory stick with me!!!. P.R.=Parish Register many of which have a gap 1810-1812(in Wales)-there was a register change at this time, so they stopped recording until the nice new registers appeared, my theory.  M.I. Memorial Inscriptions, I have surveyed over 50 graveyards in SW Brecs.  Need to revise my view if you have found 11 children.  M.W.Nash lived at Penycae just below Capel Tynycoed. What is the brickwall? I might be able to help.

Thank you for your list will check it against mine.  Yours must be the John 1827-1911??  Families this early in the C19 tended to use their parents names for their children(a clue rather than a golden rule).  Is ther a chr. date for Mary 1813 Caegarw?

Hi.
No date for Mary but she was living in Pantllefrith farm in 1839.
The John you named is the same one on my records!

I know this is an old thread now but I wonder if anyone is still monitoring it. Thomas Jones b 1825 at Pantllefrith is my 4thG Grandfather. H e lived at Blaengyrnog Farm next door and his son John Jones b1858 married Elizabeth Jones at Soar Chapel, Trecastle in 1880. When his own daughter Winifred (or 'Gwen' married in 1901 they had moved to Ystradgynlais. I would love to compare notes if you are still researching the Jones family.

Hi, many thanks Redkite for the post.
I had almost given up hope of having any more replies to this thread.
It  seems that this is the same family, but my line follows Thomas Jones' (1825) son Thomas Jones (1847).
I can go back one more generation (If I am correct) to Thomas (born 1787, Pantllefrith) but I get stuck there!
I would be more than happy to share any information I have on the family.

I have a full reconstruction for your kin-Thomas Jones(1789-1835). Using the usual"speculative" strategies aided by documentary data I would "guess"-
Thomas Jones=Ann Price ca. 1812.
Thomas s/o Thomas Jones=Margaret(1753-1820)
Ann d/o Rees Price(1761-1835)&Margaret/Mary.
There were two Rees Price tenant farmers on the 1798 L.T.A. but no Thomas Jones(maybe making him a lab. or craftsman)
My current working model based on documentary evidence & traditional naming stategies.
Garfydd.

Thank you Garfydd
I have Thomas down as born abt 1787 - 1835 and married to Ann Price.
I have 2 sons born by the name of Thomas to the above:

The first (my direct ancestor) Thomas (1825) married to Elizabeth Pugh.

The second Thomas born 1820 - 12/5/1825.
Is this Thomas (1820) married to Margaret (1753 - 1820)?

There are a lot of Thomas Jones' in this tree! ::)
