Hi

The National Archives hold Gustav's naturalisation papers from 1907:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATLN=6&CATID=5081693&j=1

They are open documents so depending on where you live you can either visit Kew in person or apply for a copy to be sent to you.

Kind regards
Gaie

 - a minor addition, notice of his naturalisation in the London Gazette, says he was serving on a British ship. The actual papers from Kew should have more info.

Hi

I recently had some luck researching a Swedish pair. A group of helpful people (just like Rootschat) on the "Genforum" internet site deal with Swedish Questions. My question was in reguard to emigration and I recieved an answer to this plus information of date of birth, parents etc.
Sweden is reputed to have possibly the finest family records in the world. From my own reading, "Genline" (pay site) is probably a good place to further your search. There is also extensive information to be found on a pilot site of Family Search.

You will probably need to know where they were born, at least the County. In my case I purchased their marriage and every one of their childs birth certificate before I approached Genforum.

Good Luck, Les

Whoops! I made a mistake in saying there is a pilot site on Family Search.
There are however lists of records in their Library Catalogue under place search once you find where he came from. These microfilms can be ordered and viewed in your closest LDS centre.

Regards, Les

Just like to add some more info for anyone else looking for Gustaf Nordblad.

The minister had written a note in the Examination Book for years 1896-1905 that Gustaf had married Blanche Stokes, born 1881, in Oct 1905 in Cardiff. (which is quite unusual).

Hi
I'm new to roots chat
Gustav Nordblad was my grandfather.  I have been tracing his family in Sweden.  My mother told me that he was one of 11 children.  In the space of 2 years 9 of them died of TB.  His sister Hilda survived. Gustav went to sea, married my grandmother Blanche Stokes and lived the rest of his days here in Cardiff.  He was Captain  Nordblad having gained his masters certificate in 1907.
I am really interested in his parents Hans Olof Nordblad and Andriette Fredrika nee Nordlund.  I have found their marriage in 1873. My mother told me that there was German blood but I have no proof.
Some of Gustav's siblings had children because my mother had Swe dish cousins.  I've been to Sweden twice and met relatives.  Lost all contact now.  I do have some beautiful old photographs of the family.
Unable to access Swedish census as I do believe that they will have some answers.
Would appreciate  any help if possible.

Hi
and welcome to RootsChat.
I can help you out but I would like to know what you exactly want so I don't look for the wrong things.
Is it just the parents you are interested in?

Hi
I am mostly interested in the parents Hans Olof & Andriette.  Most of all I want to trace their parents and siblings.
I understand there is German blood but no idea where.
I have most of Gustav's siblings.  However there is one missinig. I've found Per (pelle) Anna Esther Olivia Hilda Oskar Sigrid Lilies and her twin Gertrude.  There is one more.  I know he had a sister Vivan because my aunt was named after her.  Although I am sure that Olivia was known as Vivan.  So there is one more!  He had 10 siblings.
Also there are cousins but I'm not sure who they are decended from.
I've always been interested in the family . It's just that once I started putting it all together there are so many more questions.

Hi
Not easy locating Gustaf's parents. Hans Olof is nowhere to be found..... for the time being.

Anyway I have located Andriette Fredrika. She did not have an easy start in life. She was born 11 March 1853 in Söderhamn and christened 16 March. Her parents were seaman Anders Erik Nordlund born 1 Aug 1824 in Söderhamn. He died of cholera in Hamburg 20 Aug 1853 and her mother was Anna Fredrika Högstedt born 27 April 1831 in Bollnäs Parish.
She remarried 5 Aug 1855 to a Johan Frans Widlund. Andriette Fredrika was then given up for adoption shortly afterwards and was raised by Per Gustaf Norbäck and Christina Tönder. Andriette Fredrika was an only child.

Hi
This is really something I can relate to.
It explains the children being named Per and Anna.  I guess Gustav may have been named after Hans Olof relatives.  He certainly is a mystery.  I found the marriage  record (30.11.1873) l found that his dob 4.7.1853 but no proof and nothing at all for dod.
He was an organist in the church.  Gustav was training to be a priest .  When his siblings got TB he went away to sea.
This is a real breakthroughard

Thanks

Julia

Who was an organist?
Hans Olof was a merchant and died 16 April 1890.

Added: He could also have been an organist too.

Hi
At last I have located Hans Olof. He was born 11 July 1853 in Norrbo Parish not Norrala Parish as all the records state.

His father was school teacher Olof Nordblad born 6 Sept 1810 in Norrbo Parish and died 22 April 1855 in Norrbo Parish.
His mother was Catherina Hansdotter born 7 Nov 1819 in Norrbo Parish.

He had 1 sibling: Olivia Cathrina born 30 July 1855 in Norrbo Parish.

You may have this but it is one of his music books that can read online. I don't know if he wrote it or just owned it:

Hi
This is great.  It has really helped. Explains the names of the first 6 children.
So is there another sibling?  I know Gustav had a sister Vivan . I am guessing that Olivia was known as Vivan.
My mother had cousins . There was Aunt Helena &Aunt Marta.  Helena's children were Vivan &Carl EnqvIst.  There were 3 sisters Anna Stina & ?   I used to write to Ingrid &Hans Johnson and Boel Larrson. I wrote to Boel 1965-2013 every Christmas
Then the letters stopped.  Boel lived in Soderhamn.  All the others lived in Norrala.
I remember them all but lost touch.

There is no Vivan. So it must have been a nickname or something..... "Olivan"
