We have found 'evidence' of a birth in Coatbridge in 1876 on the 1891 census on Ancestry but cannot pull up any birth records for him on Scotland's People. Is it likely to be wrongly transcribed surnames or may there be other reasons for not being able to find him? We have been looking for Patrick McAuley born 1876 Coatbridge to parents John McAuley and Margaret (nee Griffin) both born in Ireland, living 35 N B Buildings 'Ellis' buildings'.

Have you checked the RC baptisms as you can put in parents names
There is one record showing using search
m*caul*
pat*
PARENT NAME grif*
IN 1876

Thanks for your response. We have tried to use Scotland's people and tried to find the record that you found but with no luck. What do the * stand for? Were you looking in the other records section under Catholic Parish Registers?
-
Yes you use the asterisk * as a wildcard for any letters
There is 1 record for St Patricks Coatbridge

There appears to have been another Patrick McAuly born in 1876, Coatbridge.

Many thanks for your help. We have accessed the record and now have Patrick's DoB and the correct name of his mother. Now we just have to crack the Irish part of it ???
-
Thanks for looking. We have seen this family before and it's the wrong one. There's no shortage of McAuley's in Coatbridge.

Did John and wis wife marry in Ireland?
Viewing the birth record on SP should give a date and location of marriage
-
yes they did marry in ireland as their first child was born there. second c/bridge next 2carlisle then back to c/ bridge it's hard going but thanks for your interest. hard to know where to go from here
-
If you have Patrick's full birth record the parents' marriage date and place in Ireland should be on there too, then you can start searching the likely Counties in Ireland.
:)

Thank you greenpaula I have tried sp with no result, not even sure he was born c/bridge so I will try his young sister born carlisle 1879 ,definite, but not sure parents origins will appear there.

Hi,I'm looking for information on John and Margaret McAuley, My great gradfather was Hugh McAuley brother of Patrick. Is it possible to get wedding certificates from Ireland? Does anyone know where abouts in Ireland they come from. Hugh Married Rose Burns also from Ireland in Coatbridge they settled in Newcastle around the time of the Great war. I can find Hugh and Rose in the 1911 census but no other members of the family ie John Margaret etc.

John McAuley and Margaret Griffin were my great-grandparents. I have birth records for children Roseann (1871) and Maria (1875), both born Ireland. No further trace. (Child deaths?)
-
I think John McAuley had died by the time of the 1911 census. His widow Margaret (ms Griffin) lived in Coatbridge until her death in 1935. I also have some info regarding some of their family - marriages and children, etc.
