Title: CALLAN, CO. KILKENNY
Post by: feathers on Thursday 14 January 10 12:36 GMT (UK)
Hi everybody.  Happy New Year and thanks for all your help in the past but I'm back again!  I have traced my gg grandfather - Edmund Murphy - to Mill Street in Callan in c1852.  I have discovered that he was a baker in Mill Street in Callan at that time.  There are family stories that he/his family owned a mill and a forge in Callan but so far I haven't been able to confirm this.  Would anybody have any history on these or photos of the area - I am unable to get there to look.

Thanks again. :)

Have you searched Griffith's Valuation yet? it's mid 1800s so you might find your Murphys in Callans or a nearby townland.

Thank you very much for that.  I lost momentum for a while but I'm back in the game again!

Hi There,
How's your searches going?

I think in an earlier message you were looking for details on an Edward Murphy.... shot in the leg during the first world war....from Callan?

Did you find any further info on this character?  He is my GGrandfather...and I am also looking for further details....  I have him as Edward Patrick Murphy, married to Annie (Mary Anne) Ryan on 7/4/1902 in Maddoxtown.

I'm missing his DoB and his mother's name...... there's only a few Edward Murphy birth records - but they would make Edward a rather old soldier in 14-18!

Hope you can help, and good luck! Are we looking at the same tree....?

Cheers
Dino

Hi there:  I am trying to connect to a Thomas Murphy & Elizabeth Nyhan/Nihan or Mihan, who apparently were from Callan, Kilkenny, Ireland.  Thomas Murphy, Callan Co. Kilkenny, (no birth date) was married to one Elizabeth Mihan (spelling from a french cdn.record) their child , Thomas was born in Ireland abt. 1816, he was married in Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 1843.  Thank you for any information on either names.
