Title: Common in Berkshire
Post by: mamor on Monday 25 January 10 10:30 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I need to look up a baptism for a Richard Williams, but all I have of the birth details from census returns, is that he was born 1831-36 at Common, Berks.  There are so many commons in Berkshire, and his family stopped at many of them.

Does anyone know of a place which was known simply as "Common"?

Thanks

Monique

hi,
richard Williams spouse was Mary Ann Black. They married abt 1861 Of Common. Her parents were Amos Black/Blackman & Jane or Mary Jane white. Amos was born at Boxford 1806. He married in 1830 and died in 1875. Boxford maybe a clue.

I managed to look through the Boxford registers this week, but no sign of the elusive Williams, I did find the entry for Amos Blackman that you mentioned though - and that of his daughter Clementine, who married James Williams, so it wasn't a wasted effort!  Thanks again for your help, I will keep looking!
